I absolutely adore the way y'all go back and forth about this, though that is interesting about the angle for drying. And no offense to you cigrmaster, i just question a lot of things by a lot of people. About what should the angle be (in degrees) for proper drying? I should be able to make a few stands that match that angle then, but i would need to know the angle. Is it that the bowl should sit at a right angle to the ground or am i just assuming here?

A plume of gas at that.
There's that word again...
Blue and I were going to lure Harris into the basement by leaving a trail of Klondike Gold tins and trap him there until we could contact the sanitarium from which he had escaped. It was working great until Harris spotted a squirrel and started running after it.
The cases I have were specifically made for storing pipes, 12 to 21 to the case. They all have internal fitments which allow the pipe to rest until it is needed, out of light. Some of my pipes are nice pieces. They're made of briar, a material that is different from Harris' bubble gum pipes. After having cleaned them up I want to keep them in primo condition, hence the cases. The ones that I'm currently smoking are out on my work desk.
However you decide to store them, do yourself and your pipes a favor and keep them out of direct sunlight so that the stems don't discolor.

As far as angle... there is a reference somewhere here, but I can't find it to link to it. But, basically it said
"It is better for your pipe to be erect, than not, in certain situations"

Assuming you clean and properly dry your pipe after smoking then it matters not what angle the pipe is stored at as there should be no running moisture in the stummel or stem. Somewhere out of direct sunlight and with free airflow should be ideal.

Throw mine in a chest in a walk-in closet. I leave a clean pipe cleaner in the airway. I don’t ever need to clean my pipes and the stems never see the daylight so upkeep is minor indeed. Briar is not very porous, airflow is not super important. . Be sure to clean with pipe cleaners immediately after smoking and you should be set.

My pipe is pear, not briar, and i know, there's one problem up front. But i was wondering if as a result there would be a difference in storage.

sam', your mention of homemade cobs interested me. I'd like to hear more about those if you will, and photos would be good (although I don't post photos 'cause I'm so non-tech, but if you do ...). Maybe the homemade cobs would make a different post.

I hate saying this, but i dropped it onr night as i went across the creek on a walking bridge. Fel into the water and that was literally my reason to have it. I am a bit of a clutz and i only have the one wooden pipe so far. I just wanted something for walking in case i would fall, drop it, or prove a lack of coordination in any other way.
