Define "long term" storage.
Best is a cutter top tin, but they've not bee made since the late 1970's

Square and Rectangular tins are goodfor maybe 7-8 years before they start to become unreliable, with the percentages of failures increasing with the years. Keep in mind that almost none of them are hermetically sealed from the get go, and you can smell the scent of tobacco leaking from them. In fairness, they weren't designed as a long term storage solution.

Round tins hold up better, as the seal pressure is evenly distributed around the perimeter.

I've seen far more round tins that were still holding up after 20 years than square tins.

Food grade Mylar should be a good option, especially in the 7 mil variety. Push out all the air you can and heat seal.

Vacuum sealing of Mylar or glass jars will slow down the aging process if that is what you want.

Then, you just have to hope that other bad things, like mold, won't get to your stash.

I use a regular iron with my 7mm Mylar bags. Lighter, and no fear of glass breaking when transported. Emptied a lot of jars for long term storage. Only use jars when it’s a small quantity or for blends I’m smoking. I do still use jars for my mixing tobaccos because I’m using them to treat other blends all the time.

My only potential issue with mason jars is.... kids & cats. Ive had bad experiences with those and glass. Also plan on moving in a few years. Currently i live in a fairly humid environment.

Yea I have a foodsaver type vaccume sealer i was thinking of using.

How long would mylar bags sealed using an inpact sealer last? Also would i need to boil the mason jars to seal them like i would making jellies? Or just insert tabacco and screw shut tight?
Problem solved. No kids, no cat's.

Mason jars, is usual and classic.

In the picture, you see in the two small 212ml jars, 40gr of tobacco. And in the large 500ml jar, 100gr tobacco. They fit very well.

Around the twist lid, I wrap it with stretch film (like second photo). I do it to be sure of extra protection.
