I just got the same message from SPC about there being no Stonehaven left. If orders were truly done on a first-come/first-served basis, then I don't even see how it's possible that I missed the boat.
On Friday Feb 1, I received in the "in stock" notification at 3:41 PM. I placed the items in my cart at 3:42 PM and had received my order confirmation at 3:44 PM. I think I posted here around the same time. So, they mean to tell me that despite the fact that I ordered in the first 3 minutes of it being available, I am out of luck?
No. Something stinks here, and I am pretty sure the situation is exactly as rothnh has described. I believe them to be giving preferential treatment to high volume customers in this circumstance, particularly when it comes to a tobacco you basically get 3-4 chances a year to order, if that, and you have to be insanely lucky to do even get in that window.
I am canceling my entire order.

Possibly. But I'd hate to put too fine a point on this; it could come down to how our ISPs handle traffic. I'd love to hear from more folks, though, to see if there's a pattern of frequent customers receiving earlier notifications.

Or comparing the order numbers on the invoice, that will show who ordered first.

Sure, I have no issues sharing anything. I have a 'Tobacco Meister Bronze' badge, but that is all. I have placed 3 orders prior to this one and have spent $217.04 over these 3 orders. My most recent order containing the Stonehaven and some other stuff to get up to the free shipping threshold was for $117.45. So, I have spent a pittance there compared to most folks although I'm sure I was among the fastest to order.

I just received the following message from a member of their sales/support staff explaining the situation:
---
Believe me, I understand your frustration and disappointment with this

issue. I would like to take a few minutes to go into a little detail

here about what has happened with the Stonehaven. The last shipment

that we had received from the distributor was back in September. The

shipment that we received on Friday was only for 15 bags in total. We

have hundreds of customers if not more who have signed up for the

email alert on the Stonehaven. Once that shipment came in, the email

alert was sent out to everyone at the same time. The 15 bags that we

had sold out immediately which is why it showed as out of stock a few

minutes after the alert went out. Many customers had the Stonehaven in

their shopping cart in those few minutes and even though it was in the

cart, the stock had already run out before the finalizations of those

orders. The ordering system should have shown you and the other

customers that fell into this issue a message that it was already sold

out, that did not happen and we will have the IT department look into

that for us. We had quite a few customers that this has happened to

with this latest round and we do apologize for the trouble and

disappointment.
Please know that we do not offer it on a preferential customer basis,

we would like to see all of our customers no matter how long they have

been buying from us or how much they have spent with us get what they

order when they order it. That is one of the reasons that we

implemented the email alert system for tobacco so that something like

that would not happen.
Again we apologize and understand where you are coming from. Thank you

for including the link from the forum. I have shared that with our

Management team as well. I hope that you will continue to so business

with us and please let me know if there is anything else I can help

with.
I will cancel your order out for you and refund for it, it usually

takes about 3-5 business days for the funds to repost to your card

depending on your card issuer

So, to recap - hundreds of notifications went out for a 15 bag supply. Chances are we'll see more than a few of those pop up on Ebay in a couple days. Hmm.
Given the following:
1) Retailers restocked around every 4 months

2) 15-?? bags per restock

3) Hundreds of notification emails sent out

4) Approximately 2 minutes of time to work with to get an order filled (maybe)
I think I have a better chance of the following happening in the coming months:
1) Getting dealt AA 3 times in a row at a poker table

2) Getting a triple double in a pickup basketball game to 11

3) My 3 year old son saying he'd like to use the potty

4) Menage-a-trois with Victoria's Secret models
