It’s fall, my favorite season, but it’s also stink bug season in the Northeast. Every time I open the door a few of the little fuks fly in

Thank God they haven't found Kansas yet. Gosh I hated those thing when I lived back east.

Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs

Stink bugs are a common insect in Kansas. There are green stink bugs, there are brown stink bugs. They are usually more of an outdoor pest, and not too much of an issue inside the home. However, we are seeing more and more evidence of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug in east central Kansas. The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is an exotic, invasive insect that made its way to the United States unintentionally from Asia.

We have them here in Illinois. Never found one in the house, not yet anyway. I've found a few in the yard though.

This must be the current plague, stink bugs. My sister and her husband live in a Chicago suburb and are having a stink bug influx. They capture them in glasses and boost them out the door so as not to have their stink in the house. They stink when you smash them, not so much otherwise.

I remember seeing one on the floor of the school bus when I was a kid. I grinned and stomped my shoe on the sucker. The smell was horrendous. Imagine 40 or so kids gagging and rolling all around gasping for air. That was the best rotten smell I had ever smelled! ?

Brown marmorated stink bug.
This invasive variety showed up in my part of the PNW about 10 years ago.
First years just a couple and the next few years it became many dozens. They crawled up the sides of the house in the Fall, looking for a warm place to winter over I suppose, so we found quite a few in the house.

We back up on forest and I don’t like to spray because of all the varmints and critters in the woods. So the next year I cleared out the leaf litter and such for a ways back from the house and that made a huge dent in their numbers.
Next year I took down a row of scraggly Alders that were about 25’ from the house and left the maples, firs and cedars standing. this year I am not seeing any at all. I seem to have disturbed their preferred habitat.

Yup they are everywhere in Wisconsin.

Long story short version.

We had a cat that got into one once. We ended up calling the gas and electric company because my wife thought we had a gas leak in the house. Then when the guy was done walking around thinking we were crazy, we found the dead stinkbug by the front door.
