So much for “CONFIDENTIAL.”
I received this email earlier today and considered posting it until I saw 'CONFIDENTIAL' at the top. Normally I wouldn't have thought otherwise, but when all this first started, I posted an email response I got from a rep at TobaccoPipes and they actually CALLED me asking me to remove the post from the forum (I don't remember giving them my phone number or having ordered from them before, but I must have). They weren't mad about it, but I think it stressed them out and I didn't want to deal with something like that again.

In response to this information in general: they certainly wasted no time!

Ha, they got more leaks than a hit submarine.
But, I don't plan on buying any STG ever.

I would take this as a shot across the bow though. If they are going to raise prices, we may be seeing a rise in prices across the board. So, stock up now on all non-STG products also.
Yup. The biggest fish usually sets the tone for the industry.

Maybe it's just hard to read or I'm dense but I don't see anything that shows price increases. This just looks like a price sheet to me with an effective date. That doesn't necessarily imply an increase anymore than it implies a decrease.

Do you know this is an increase because you can compare it to a previous price sheet?

If this is true, and if someone asks @romaso to take this down, just tell them to come on here and explain what their stress is.

We assume that this is a wholesale list, as they can't set retail prices.

They sent out a clarification email that the notice today was not an additional price increase, but an alignment by Sutliff as still the current distributor, updating their STG/Lane prices to align with the price list that was posted January 1.

If you don’t want to pay the increase, don’t buy the product, simple as that. Buyers set prices, not sellers.
Don’t buy the increase and the price will go back down. It’s not like there isn’t a huge profit margin in tobacco.

The current contract price for the best grade of flue cured North Carolina bright leaf is about $2 per pound.

Perique is more, but about all others are less.

When they age, blend and sell the product there’s a $2.83 a pound tax but not before sale.

It could be the major sellers are marking up Lane products a half of one per cent, but more likely Lane gives a rebate to them, which is all their profit.

Selling tobacco is kind of like farming in general.

The markup seems insane, spend two dollars get back forty!

The reality is there’s barely any real profit.

I noticed a windowless black van following me most of the day, out of state plates, and in my rearview mirror I could see the driver and passenger were really big guys, wearing guayabera shirts and chewing on cigars. There was also a pack of pipe cleaners on the dashboard...
Think it's a coincidence???

Ohh they're just in town for a pipe show.
Don't worry about those guys.
Nothing to do with STG at all.
Stop asking questions.
