My father and most of his entire generation would only buy the little six ounce returnable bottles of Coca Cola.
Coke finally matched Pepsi in the size of bottles, after World War Two.
——-
Pepsi-Cola hits the spot,
Twelve full ounces, that's a lot,
Twice as much for a nickel, too,
Pepsi-Cola is the drink for you.
——-
So long as the bottlers took bottles for return and refill Coke had to offer six ounce bottles. At the end they cost more.
The theory was the little bottle had more fizz.
I agreed they did, but I bought the big ones.
I can’t really imagine anybody messing with a successful recipe for a major brand trying to improve it, but I suppose they might.
