Stanwell Old Briar 877 with Patent Number

Poorly listed poorly photographed on e bay and now mine. I am a big Stanwell fan. I sweated on it for a week.

Nice pipe. Thanks for sharing.
Open question to pipe-makers:
How do you get that surface finish on the briar? Looks like the pipe was first blasted, and possibly, then buffed, to smooth any roughness and to take off any sharp ridges?
I love that blasted, but yet smooth finish.

Frank, the Danish blasts were never as deep as say the old English blasts. 50~60 years of handling, and perhaps being buffed at some time is, I think, what you are seeing. I'm not a pipemaker, but it's what I've seen with older estate pipes.
