Howdy folks, bet you thought I was gone for good. Down but not out, had to give up smoking for a while as I have been trying to kick a respiratory infection.
In other news I was on the hunt for a thermos today and I remembered my dad's old Stanley. That thing would keep coffee hot for a whole day and you could knock out a bear with it. I went over to amazon to check how much a new one was and was surprised to find so many negative reviews. I did a bit of digging and found out that in 2002 a cooperation called PMI bought Stanley Aladdin and moved production from Nashville TN to Shanghai China. So today I bought a new / old one on eBay.
Shame that an amazing American product has come to it's end.

I can put scolding hot coffee in it
What did you do to p*ss off the coffee? haha, i keed, i keed.
When I worked in an office, I used an REI brand thermos too, double wall vacuum sealed stainless and it was fantastic. I had an old stanley in my university days, but the glass interior didn't survive a car accident, and the above thermos replaced it.

The quality has gone way, way down. I had an original one that was getting rusty inside, so I ordered a new one, not realizing how much they had changed - sent it straight back.
Instead I bought a NIssan Thermos with the slide handle attached to the side. A great product - well made and the handle design is super smart.

I bought my Stanley right after I was discharged from active duty.

:worship: That would make mine 31 years old about two weeks ago.

It's got a couple well earned dents and few scratches, but the patina is gorgeous. :D

Just getting broken in good... I did have to replace the "O" ring... once. :D

I bought one of the old green ones (maybe they are all green) with the shiny cup and the pop up pourer.
My (now ex) wife took it to her school one day and it disappeared. She swore up and down for two years she didn't take it to school with her (she was a teacher). When she changed schools, I went up to help her pack out and found the thing hidden in a file cabinet.
It has again disappeared, this time I am pretty sure for good.
In any case, I rarely have a use for such things any longer, due to the restrictions of things you can bring into a prison unit, but the REI one looks pretty good.
However, I can bring a 32 oz. insulated cup into the unit, and the 34 oz. cup I got from Buc-Ees Truck stop in Lulin, Texas will keep ice all day in 100 degree heat, as long as it stays in the shade.
