Not to be nitpicky, but for the nonhunters here that rack above my head is from a bull moose. He just squeaked into the record book for a Shiras moose.

In the mid 1990s I got a 220 pound dressed 14 point typical White Tail with an unofficial 174 1/2 inch rack.
That's a huge deer in any state, but WNY isn't exactly known for huge bucks.
It was a very long hunt with a lot of drama. I am not a trophy hunter, but this deer jumped at 20 yards on the last day of regular season....so he didn't stand a chance.

A friend and I went WAY too far into the woods in Clymer NY, mostly just scouting for the next year. There was maybe an hour left of light, and we were about 3 miles away from our truck....on the last day.
We were walking very loudly, and my friend was smoking a cigarette. Then BOOM, huge buck, huge bang, dead deer.
Did I mention we were THREE miles from our vehicle? In knee deep snow.
We didn't even try dragging it. We walked to the Amish farm we were hunting on and borrowed their 250 3 wheeler....bad idea.
That dumb 3 wheeler wouldn't move the dang deer. After an hour of pulling by hand and 3 wheeler, the farmers son showed up riding a Belgian draft horse.

That did the trick.
We hoisted the deer onto the horse and my friend and I walked the rest of the way while the horse, rider and deer disappeared into the darkness.
My friend had it mounted, and still has it hanging in his basement.
