Poking around in the cellar today I noticed the plastic lid of a tin was off. It's a 1 lb. tin of Pease Odyssey and it's still sealed, but I'm waiting for the Kaboom. I have a second tin that isn't nearly as swollen. Wonder if something nefarious is going on in there.

It's either getting very good or very bad. Let us know what happens. I've had bulging lids but never deformed like that. The bulging turned out well, highly smokeable.

Agreed, I always try to remember that I might as well be optimistic. Not like it's gonna hurt anything.

I had an 8 ounce tin of Chenet's Cake that started bulging significantly within 6 months of me buying it back in ~2016. Curiosity eventually got the best of me and I cracked it open to find completely normal tobacco.

Jarred it up and have never seen a hint of mold on it since then. Still have the jar in the cellar and a few other 8 ounce tins of it that never bulged like that one did.

Open it and if you see it well and it still smells like tobacco, smoke it. And the rest to a glass jar. It is not very aesthetic to have a bulky can among your cellar mates.

Put it in the fridge for a couple of hours prior to opening. It'll help relieve some of the pressure.

A little punch with an ice pick will relieve pressure if you're at all concerned about pulling the tab.
