Squadron Leader has caught my eye, anyone have any thoughts? I like early morning pipe and nightcap, trying to get some advice before I buy a tin ?

I think it falls somewhere between the blends mentioned. Quite a good medium English blend IMO
It's very very good. Enjoy a bit myself at times I want a Balkan and I want something other than Balkan Supreme.

if you can get it, then do so! It is a classic, iconic blend, often sold out. You are sure to love it. That said, Personally, I find it uninspiring so far. Jarred up the one I opened and look forward to improvement over some time. Guessing Skiff will be more to my liking when new. (I'll get around to that in the next while or so.) But I haven't given up on the venerable Squadron Leader. It is highly regarded. For reason. I'm glad I have some.

It’s a good English blend, however, once every few years, Gawith offers a limited version of Squadron Leader containing Perique which is excellent If you can get your hands on it. I haven’t seen it lately, though.
I enjoy it quite a bit. IMO it's worth a try.
Not too mild. Has some complexity. Rather pleasant blend. Definitely more to it then Balkan Supreme. Balkan Supreme isn't so bad, but it's rather plain.
Just do it. SL is a reference English blend. I can’t remember if SL or Dunhill 965 was my first English, but together, they hooked me on the genre.
Absolutely get some if you can. The quintessential English blend.
I participated in the blend tasting. Squadron Leader was my second favorite, behind a discontinued unobtainable blend, of course. Ordered up a few tins just recently.
BTW, I know SmokingPipes has gotten more in their recent drop, but Watch City Cigar has quietly had some SL on their shelves for perhaps a year now. 
If you have the opportunity, definitely snag a tin or two. It's one of those benchmark English blends. You mentioned an early morning and nightcap pipe. This will call somewhere between the two, probably closer to EMP.
Have they done that more than once? Missed it every time, if so.
A couple of times that I’m aware of. The last time was maybe four years ago. I haven’t seen it since.
I have about a pound of it jarred up. If you enjoy English blends, I'd be shocked if you didn't like it.
I don't often smoke English blends but when I do, this one is very pleasant. It falls into my medium English category. Well balanced and not too heavy on the Latakia. It burns well, has decent complexity and delivers a satisfying smoke. I recommend it.
If you like Early Moring Pipe try Skiff Mixture and Ahston's Consummate Gentleman too they have Maryland which adds to the Orientals in a nice way
I am throwing in a positive vote for the Squadron Leader as well. Skiff is my Favorite of the two but just barely.
Squadron is solid, especially right out of the tin. Doesn't need age. I am always surprised it doesn't sell as fast as some of the others. Same could be said for SG Navy Flake which is so good fresh or with 3-5 years.
