I keep the bulk of my leaf inside in my temperature & humidity controlled home; but a lot of my soon to try leaf, is in my "not controlled" garage. I looked up at my shelf this weekend and saw this in front of my eyes; and took it outside for the pic.



Here's a view from the side:




I wiped them off on the grass and put it back inside on the shelf.

I've kept tins out there for a few years at a time without any compromise to tin or contents. I think most of our storage is relatively impervious to all but the worst of scenarios.

This was just odd enough that I wanted to share.

BTW, this is one of the blends I haven't gotten to try yet. Not sure if it was a sign to open and consume, or wait.........

On a more serious note, You might want to remove that label and wash down the tin before opening. Although the fungus is growing on paper, I’ll bet it would enjoy a tobacco snack, too.

It's really not moist. Just a bit of humidity in the ambient air, which isn't that much right now.
It's hanging at 71% right now....
No dampness in the area.
It seems to be just an oddity.

Do you protect the tins with Mylar or anything special?
How long do you leave them in the non-climate control? (Was curious if a few years meant 1-3 or longer)
Also what’s the template average where you are at? Summer/winter

These particular tins are just hanging out in my garage, they are one-offs just for me to open.
Some up to 5 years, western Arkansas, never any issues.
This is not my long term storage area..........
Storage area inside is temp & humidity controlled.

They make books and have nice pretty pictures of the ones to eat and the ones not to eat.
Sadly the book does not come with reading glasses or a tour guide to help you out.
Best advice, don’t eat any wild mushrooms! Not all of them give you an extra life or make you big like Mario.

From my very limited observation, I'm under the impression that most every one that is edible, has a very similar looking counterpart that is somewhere between no bueno to deadly. It's about that way with a lot of wild herbs too, but usually a little less on the deadly side.

It’s all fun and games picking wild carrots until you get the white hemlock ones….but on the plus side, those are normally 100% organic

They are considered beneficial insects . They eat aphids & mites .
Ugly little boogers , though .

Agreed.
My "a few years" could be upwards of 20.
