SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve, How Much Better is it?

Ive got a year old tin I'm waiting on cracking. Not that I'm "that guy" but I have too much in rotation as is. Excited to try it.

It's got legs….I am slowly buying some now of the original issue before they transition.
Usually purchase 2-1….two regular PP & to one PPSR.
Did not like the Bourbon issue.
I have jarred along the years and it really only gets smoother with age.

I started doing that when I fell for the Special Reserve is a limited run. Lol. I really liked it and cellared around 5 pounds within 3 months. Then I've slowly added more each year. I'm pretty sure I'm 7 lbs of PPSR and probably 9 lbs of PP. Just did another large order. I typically by Plum Pudding in the 8 oz. Tins and the Special Reserve comes in 4 oz cakes. I decided that Plum Pudding, Plum Pudding Special Reserve, Chelsea Morning, and Quiet Nights were my top English Blends. I will never run out of these. I quit buying pipes and just focused on tobacco when a few sites started taxing. Found new sites and loaded up everything I thought I'd need to last my lifetime.

Just popped a brand new tin. I had regular PP years ago at beginning of my pipe journey. I wasn’t yet experienced with how to taste tobacco. (Confession: I once dumped an entire canister of Stonehenge in the garbage !) Anyway, this PP Special Reserve is so smooth. Others have noted it might be too smooth. I find it wonderfully balanced and round. Reminds me of my first smoke years ago of Penzance. It certainly isn’t edgy like Gaslight, so if that’s what you’re after look elsewhere; but as a balanced smoke, it might be unbeatable. Complexity is something that seasoned pipe smokers can detect. As long as you have a collection of different blends you won’t be disappointed. I find PP Special Reserve fantastic this time of year. Plus, since this already has aged tobaccos, there’s no need to age it. In fact, it might be better new.

SPC Plum Pudding is a great blend, but Plum Pudding Bourbon Aged Barrel is a step above.

I have 4 cans in my cellar and itching to open one. So good.
