Those come to mind. Im not saying PP is bad. Its just that for me it doesnt stand out about other lat blends

With all due respect to those three blends, to paraphrase Sen. Lloyd Bensten in his 1988 VP debate, I know Quiet Nights, I’ve smoked Quiet Nights, and it, sir, is no Plum Pudding (and by most measures neither are any of the 18 or so HU blend I’ve smoked, either).

I agree that one or two of the SPC blends are the ones most likely of the Sutliff factory shutdown victims to obtain Frog Morton unicorn status.

Even if someone else picks up the SPC blends, I doubt they will produce the many variations (barrel aged, special reserve, etc). Who knows what the end result will look like. PP and MR in particular are very unique blends to me and I'm not sure they can be easily replicated.

I felt dirty paying $13.50/ tin for the regular. No way in Hell I was paying for the reserve. I really like the regular, anyway. Truth be told, Plum Pudding has about as many fans as Frog did *before it was announced it was going away* so it is anyone's guess what will happen if ole Mr. Guss can't find a new blender and this goes extinct.

Which is exactly why I predict it will become the new Frog Morton if there isn't a new blender. A blend that's very popular and hyped when in production so when it gets discontinued many who smoked it regularly will miss it and those who never got to will be want to try it, leading to people paying a premium for a single tin.

I'm still sitting on a bunch of frog morton's cellar, too....I open one a year, and keep the stave to pack in my Northwoods rotational jar (I'll let it soak in some Macallans halfway through the year, too).

Smart man, you stocked up when it was still reasonable. I think one tin a year is a pretty good way to keep a supply of something discontinued around as long as possible. Northwoods might disappear too, I believe it's in a similar limbo as PP

Actually, all of the english blends are now that price.

Might have to make one last grab.

I don’t smoke English blends all that often, but when I do I find them enjoyable.

I have enjoyed a few bowls each of the regular and SR plum pudding, and I greatly preferred the SR - now I’m not sure if this was due to the pressing, and if so, maybe some age would reduce the gap between the blends.

That said, I’ve also smoked Northwoods, and if given the chance to acquire one of the three blends, that’s the one I’d be buying.

Even if they do, history has proven that it will taste different. Best you can hope for is that it is 'a little' different and still is amazing. But, that has most often not been the case. I stocked up, but I wish I could have gotten more. SPC blends will be missed.

Century tobacco is rebranded sutliff made stuff. If you look at the descriptions closely you’ll see some of them appear to be the same blends which they made for Seattle pipe club

There were 5 Frog Mortons, but everyone chases accross the pond. It is not impossible to think the reserve uber PP could achieve chased status. lol

With Joe Lankford gone, and Russ no longer active, I'm not sure who can get that done in today's post mac baren disaster world. Lol

Yeah ATP was discontinued years before McC closed because they ran out of Syrian Lat

And Per Jensen fired, he might find a new home but I doubt he'll get the creative freedom he seemed to have had with Sutliff. There's always Jeremy Reeves and Greg Pease but there's no disputing that the loss of Lankford and Ouellette is massive.

My favorite SPC blend is wild man, which didn't get as much love as it deserved. It supposedly has Yenidje in it, which seems right to my taste. If the SPC blends come back, I doubt that one will make the cut. I could never really get into plum pudding,

Yeah Wild Man is very well regarded by those who've had it but not many have

Last year Two guys in cigar discord imn in got their parcels molested by uk customs, both ordering a few tins of Seattle plum pudding. worked out nearly three times what they paid but both happily paid it as you can't get PP in UK sadly

I think picaroon plug 1690 sounds like it is the bourbon barrel version of PP

Century Picaroon 1690 Plug Pipe Tobacco is made from Latakia, Turkish Orientals, Virginia, Cavendish and St James Parish Perique. Aged for 30 days in Kentucky Bourbon barrels and then pressed into dense plugs. Loose packaged weighed to order.
