The hours of labor restoring some estate pipes -- if you paid yourself minimum wage -- would buy you a

new pipe at mid-level or above, but the upside is, you really get to know the pipe, and restoring it gives you

license to remake it to your own specifications, to a degree. At least clean it up, and restore the finish. This

pipe illustrates the importance of cleaning a pipe after each smoke. If you do that relentlessly, you can avoid

reaming in many cases. This is a object lesson in how not to smoke a pipe, I'd guess. I somewhat doubt it

is a flaw in manufacture.
