Hi all you guys, i have seen something mentioned somewhere about tongue bite, tongue burn and the like. I fear i may have tongue burn as it feels rough with a layer of slime i have used mouth wash to try and rid the slime which works temporarily but what about the tongue burn.

1.)Puffing too hard

2.)Nicotine of tobacco is high

3.)Certain "aromatics" burn at a higher temperature...smoke slowly

4.)Smoking too fast

5.)Not enough cold beer to cool it down

I totally misunderstood the title here. Salt water is the answer. Tastes terrible works great.

Thanks juozapas, from what i was like when i 1st started i have slowed down considerably due to the pipe bowl getting too hot yes i smoke aro's but i'm exploring Balkans at the min. As for the cool beers mmmmm i rarely drink alcohol but i do enjoy a nice berry fruit flavoured cold juice. locopony thanks for your answer too i never thought about the salt water for the last couple of days now i have had a sore tongue or i have burnt it from the heat of the smoke possibly.

Failing all that, lay off for a few days give your mouth a break and go back at it nice and slow.

A Werther's butterscotch or Lifesaver butter-rum candy will "reboot" your tongue. I know, it sounds silly, but it works for me.

Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste for me works on the bite (less these days, smoke'in slow and having bacci proper moisture levels are also key IMO to cut down the bite) as for the slime (could be the bacci-teria overload from smoking all day/every day)...crazy as it sounds (don't do this with any bite) but I had been doing a cayenne pepper reg as part of my daily routine anyway (the organic/high-end stuff you get from say Starwest or something like that), start with 35,000 as it is DAMN hot at this level and noticed it really cleans my mouth from the bacci-teria overload of a heavy smoke'in day...not here to sell Cayenne pepper reg but it is amazing if you look at all the stuff it does for you...

Try swishing equal amounts of peroxide with water - that seems to help me. I always do it after I brush my teeth anyway. :D

:D You can try softly brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth.

I used to smoke my pipe during night time, when I wake up the next morning I have a feeling that my lips are dry and thick and my tongue bitten. I smoke slowly and when my bowl gets hot I let it cool down before relighting...I am not sure how I got such feeling in my lips ang tongue.
By the way, I am smoking Dingler Nineteen O' Four.

Biotene is a wonder for sore tongues but also to keep your mouth fresh after smoking. I got a good deal on Amazon for 6 bottles at 5 bucks each with free shipping. I also ordered the Biotene gum. Not full of flavor but for cottonmouth and dry lips it is helpful for about 15 minutes.

Biotene here in NS retailes for $11.99 a large bottle. Wife and I were at the discount store today and there on the shelf were 2 bottles, $4.99 each. Wife said, "Grab em both", so I am good for awhile.
On another note, I do find that Listerine Zero works quite well also.
