Welcome to the hobby and the forum. I'll share the standard advice I give new pipe smokers: smoke the best tobacco you can afford in the best pipes you can afford. It will increase your enjoyment. :puffy:

Welcome to the forums. I wish you a speedy transition to pipe smoking and hope that you get past the inevitable pitfalls of tongue bite and improperly packed bowls.

There is a learning curve, and part of that is actually the physical training your tongue and brain receive over time and practice.

It's understandable that you would be leary of some random stranger wanting to send you free samples. I've got no agenda, nor the time or interest in stalking you. Lol
I just hate to see new pipers starting down the inevitable path of dissapointment when it comes to aromatics. This magnified by the fact you've probably got a decent tolerance for nicotine. I have many blends open and are more than happy to share. It's easier taking the step into new territory when you don't have to foot the bill if it's not to your liking.
I got your PM, so keep an eye out next week for the package. I live in Atlanta, so it shouldn't take that long.
Take care.
BTW my name is Marc.

Thanks Marc! i appreciate it, i really do. Can't wait to get the samples. Might have to find some jars to put the tobacco in.
Once i get on my feet, i will return the favor.
Thanks again Marc.

No worries amigo, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of them as I do. Also, no need to return the favor, just enjoy. Besides, if things go like they did with me, you'll be cursing me due to your new found relentless "need" to buy more and more tobacco.

I'm glad to be part of a community that cares about its members. it's hard to find a community that cares, every community that i've joined, never cared, and always discourage its newcomers. Even though my ideas are a bit far fetched, still is no need in discouraging someone's idea because you think will not work.
I want to thank every last one of you, for taking the time and sharing your knowledge. It means a great deal to me.

Couldn't agree more! I've been banned from Astrophotography forums over polite disagreements. This is the only "nice" forum I've ever been a part of... not just nice, but generous and giving. It's the twilight zone man!!

The best beginners kit I've ever seen!! Not only tons of nicely packed and labeled bags, but a guide sheet to top it off! VERY impressive and thoughtful! Very, very cool!

Yeah it is a very thoughtful and generous gift, i wasn't expecting 12 packs of samples but more of the likes of 2-4. Honestly, i wasn't expecting anything, mainly because when something is too good to be true it usually is. But in this case i got a thoughtful and generous gift of tobacco.
I am semi terrified to attempt to smoke most of these blends given the reviews of some referring to vomiting. But we shell see what happens later down the road. i couldn't get any jars so i hope the tobacco will last or be gone.

You got some wonderful examples of really good pipe tobacco.

I hope you learn to smoke them to their best advantage without undue distress.

Start by just enjoying the variety of smells each blend emits.

Keep in mind that your palate will adjust to your new 'hobby', and that it may take several bowls (over time) of a blend to acquire its qualities.

Marc, Nice work!

Landofnone:
Derfargin is a stand up guy who just sent you one of the coolest tobacco startup kits I've ever seen.
I get the impression funds are tight, so run down to the nearest thrift store and buy two Mason/Ball type jars. The tobacco samples which smell like BBQ and campfire go into one and everything else goes into the other. Keep those baggies sealed, hoss. Your outlay of cash will be two bucks plus tax and this is how tobacco cellars are born.
My wife has often teased me about pipe smokers being just as bad as dopers. "You guys are always trading!" True, and we also help out the new guys. If somebody here - over 100 posts - offers you something, it's pretty safe to say, "Yes, please,' or 'No, thank you."

derfargin. Yes I have been enjoying them, I haven't found one that I don't like yet.
So far I've smoked.

Rattray's- Bagpiper's Dream

Match- Edgeworth Ready Rubbed

Macbaren- Old Dark Fried.

Newminster Superior Round Slices.

Cornell & Diehl's Epiphany
All I’m going to say right now is, I am enjoying them. Perhaps I will give my thoughts of them at a much later date.

Okay, so I had someone very rude sent me a private message referring to my comment.
Perhaps I will give my thoughts of them at a much later date.
I know it wasn't the best choice of words, and I apologize if I sounded like an arrogant asshole "depicted from private message".
But I assure you that isn't the case, I used "perhaps" as a reminder that I might not be able to smoke because of tongue bite/tongue burn, and not being sure how long it will take to heal. And before I can give my thoughts, I need to smoke a few more bowls before I can give out my thoughts on the tobacco.
I hope this helps with any confusing. And once again I am very grateful of what Marc did for me. I just can't give any thoughts of the tobacco if I can't taste the tobacco.

Late to the party on this one, but WOW what a nice gesture. That was a fine starter kit of different tobaccos for sure. I look forward to a few reviews of the different blends once you have figured them out.
