Neville Bros? Bill Withers?

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Any time she goes away
Any time she goes away
A great opening line doesn’t matter who is singing it. It sets the stage, the mood, the tone of the whole song. But, if I were going to pick a singer for this song, I’d go with Buddy Guy.

Didn’t scroll through the whole thread to see if this had been posted, but to me the opening line to Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is unparalleled!

“Well I stand up next to a mountain and chop it down with the edge of my hand”.

I believe the late great comedian Bill Hicks mentioned this line in an old bit he used to do!
