I found 3 different cutters at an antique store in my town. My phone wont upload pictures at the moment (battery dying) but I will when I get home.
If anyone is interested I could facilitate the purchase.

Here are the three I saw. They vary in condition from OK to excellent. They are much larger than I imagined, ranging from 16" to 20". I will list them in order of condition, size, and price - which is $145/ $165/ $190:

So, if anyone wants one of these, I would be happy to work the deal and put it in the mail.

Many thanks for the PM Haines. They look to be gorgeous cutters but alas way over what I would be prepared to lash out, and that's not even considering the P&P which would be horrendous as they look to be hefty beasts.
I shall just have to plod on with my homemade affair and hope I get it right
Regards,
Jay.

Same here, Randelli. I love giant old hunks of steel, especially beautiful ones with unusual or uncommon purpose. This is awesome.

Lovely looking cutters! Made to last too, unfortunately you don't see them in the U.K. Which is a shame, as they'd be very easy to restore to their former glory.

If anyone buys one be prepared to do some work on it. I had to drill out the screws holding the blade, then sharpen the blade(had a nice size chip in it) and re-temper it. Very nice "machines" these are!

@jitterbudude, do you like yours? Do you use it, or is it more of a conversation piece? How thin will it cut the flakes?

Those are beautiful. However if I purchased one, my wife would not be cutting tobacco with one....

I saw some while walking through the pipe museum on China. They obviously arent for sale, but cool nonetheless. I tried to get better pictures of them, but there was a wall of glass the gave off some mean glares in between the myself and the pieces

And just to throw this in there, this pipe stand would be awesome to have

Yes I use it fairly often. I've never measured how thin it will slice bit it will slice "very thin".

Unfortunately, I only took a few pictures. The lighting and the display cases gave off incredible glares. I'll check online here and see if there have been some professional photos taken of the museum.
