I caught a couple breaks in the clouds during, and snapped a crappy photo of the total eclipse with my phone held to my eclipse glasses. KIMG3194.JPGKIMG3188.JPG

Seen one eclipse, seen them all. puffy
The one thing that surprised me from the last one, was that when you see the light on the ground between the leaves of a tree, they all show the ring of the eclipse, like thousands of pinhole projectors. You don't even have to look up to see it or have any special equipment. Kind of trippy.

There is an old saying, "pictures just don't do it justice." The first time I understood the meaning of those words I was a sailor, watching the sunset in the middle of the Pacific. The next was seeing the Aurora from the Bering Sea. The last time was when I visited the Grand Canyon... today was another one of those days. Sitting in the path of totality for today's solar eclipse was one of the most spectacular experiences of my life. It was absolutely stunning. Wow.

Below are a few unedited shots I was able to capture from my back porch with my cell phone camera.

It was pretty overcast here in the Austin area. Got a few glimpses of it but not too great for viewing. I could see Jupiter for a brief second between the clouds but not Venus.

It was really something. When it went total, Jupiter and Venus popped up out of nowhere. Fucking awesome.

The ancients just took a crap when that happened.:)
