Dark red and light Virginia, along with Dark Fired Kentucky.
What's not to like? One of my faves. :puffy:

Yes, this is a very fine blend and one of my mainstays ... and well worth the honour of bringing this thread back from deeps.

fnord, I just found it. It wasn't under my bed, it was in a cabinet filled with jars of Sg Flakes that have been aging since 2012.
Mark aka hoosierpipeguy, I am glad you like it, definitely a keeper for the cellar. Now grab 50 tins before the price goes up again. Those 50 tins equals 11 pounds, barely enough for 20 years.

I, too, like this one. But it now plays second fiddle to Newminster 403. Just my palette and two cents

Very delicious stuff. A unique style that should live on, if you ask me (which you did not)...

I'm working on a tin from 2005 that got buried in my tobacco closet. Back then it came in a sealed gold mylar bag inside the tin so you could just let it age in the tin. As you would expect, it is amazing. Wish I hadn't waited several years to add more to the cellar. Now it seems to just be wrapped in plastic inside the tin so it needs to be jarred up for aging. I wonder why they changed the packaging inside the tin?

whitebar, I bought out a guy who was selling 2002 633 100 gram tins that also had those gold mylar bags and you are right, the tobacco inside was in perfect shape. No idea why they changed them.

What is the Kentucky percentage? There's definitely a line over which the back of my throat doesn't like me to pass.

+1 on 660 :worship: I forgot I had 5lbs in the cellar , which has about 5yrs on it already - this thread just sparked the interest again. I need to break some out for my AM smoke with coffee tomorrow

In the search for Virginia alternatives I just purchased 2 cans. Nice packaging. Not sure why they used a can the size of a loaf or bread...but whatever. Looking forward to getting to know the blend.

Nubie take...so be gentle. The first foyer was excellent. You can immediately tell that this is a fine product. Similar mouth feel to many Esoterica blends. Lots of Va's that are full flavored and dark with small little peaks of dark fruit showed through. Second half was very different, many more low notes of the KY came to the front. Some spice but just enough to be balanced.

First impressions, I enjoyed that the experience because SSF wasn't monochromatic and yet balanced incredibly well. It's like a symphony, you like what you're hearing but it's hard to tell exactly who's making all the noise. There is no dominant player here...and who takes the lead changes up depending on how you tend to the pipe.

I do taste some type of case, but not experienced enough to know what it is.

I recently bought a tin and am already planning on buying at least a pound to age. Lovely smoke.
