To me, the stem and button -- where the rubber meets the road, so to speak -- is one of the more important parts of the pipe,

and comfort is essential. I think the softy bits are like condoms: I'm less interested in protecting the stem than in enjoying the

tactile interface with it.

I use them and like them. They feel good to me, and they help with clenching. It's a matter of personal taste though. I've only ever seen one size, they stretch and fit pretty easy.
Edit- Just don't forget to take them off for stem cleaning...

I only use them in the car with one of my briars because my teeth are too sharp to hold a pipe in a moving vehicle without the pipe slipping out. I'm with cortezattic on this one and keep cobs around a lot for clenching without worry about the bit, I just buy the bits for them a dozen at a time.

I bought a pack of 2. Definitely worth trying, but I found out that I actually bite down harder when I use them... i guess cause they are soft and easy to clench down on. So my actually hurt more when I use em! Maybe i could get used to em, but i just removed it. I will keep em around though

When I first started smoking a pipe I actually thought they were ridiculous. But, I got one one day and tried it I have used one on every pipe since. For me, I have jaw issues and the soft pipe bits give me some more give and doesn't make my jaw work so hard to clench. For me too, I really prefer to protect the stem. I hate dents in the stem. I buy them in bulk of the bay. One of the few things I don't buy from our sponsors, but its a much better deal.

I use them on sharply bent pipes that I am more likely to hang/clench.

i think i need to try these out. some of my heavier pipes are causing me to clench a bit too much and it's making my teeth hurt!

I use them. Protection. Also I have jaw issues, slight overbite and a cross bite (thanks orthodontist...screwed up my bite but made my teeth straight...)

I bought some for my newest pipes. But yesterday I put one on my Edward Squat Bulldog as the button is kinda small. The rubber bit made it a better clencher.

My Pipe Softy Bits arrived in the mail today, and while they're gonna take a little time to get used to, I already think that they're more than worth the .99 I paid for them - I have a habit of crunching down on my stems and I hate tooth marks on my pipes.

i stopped into a terrible and overpriced cigar store today to see if they had any pipes and over paid for a pair of softy bits. Definitely going to take some getting used to but i think my jaw will thank me. my teeth have been feeling sore from over clenching. And my cobs look like a squirrel got to them.
