I play guitar, and I enjoy shooting my .308 for which I hand load cartridges (when I’m not smoking, of course ;)). The guitar is free, less the price of one guitar, so that gets more mileage than the rifle if I’m being honest. Flint knapping is cool, I understand that there is some serious skill involved there.

Funny, I was just thinking about this today.

I'm currently looking for new hobbies.

Problem is... most are expensive. With all the things to do and buy, family wise, most hobbies seem unappealing.

For me smoking isn't a hobby.

I mean... If I hit the lottery or something I could just buy guns and cars all day.

I guess this is why many people drink. Haha

I like theater and Spanish and international novels from the 1920s to the 1980s. I am not a collector of anything, just a generous library, some tobacco, and a few bottles of whiskey. Reading, It's my antidote, my pill against the madness of misinformation, digital boredom, and media stupidity. I'm thinking of going back to fishing with a rod and reel. A childhood friend suggested it to me, and I think it's a good idea.

My commute once again takes up a good chunk of my hobby time, but I do enjoy growing food, cooking (in particular interest of cured things lately....I've made bacon for a number of years now, my first pastrami will cook tomorrow and I'm eyeing cased meats this fall), and making things like my own pipes and fountain pens.

I like when I don't have to leave my little property. I paid for it, I try to enjoy it.

Playing music(guitar/bass), collecting vinyl records, typewriters, fountain pens, stationary, and of course...Warhammer. recently sold all of my 40k when they rereleased fantasy as "The Old World."

I would also say reading/writing but I'm studying for the priesthood so all of my reading and writing is either to work on my thesis, studies, or to sharpen my skills in homiletics.

I love old shotguns, and watches, and nice pens, and books.

But in my retirement my greatest pleasure is reading the current events of our times, like this story:

Somebody could have robbed him and drove his car with him in it, off into the Mississippi.

Or more likely, he took a wrong turn in 1967.

I started Juijitsu classes about 6 months ago at 51 yrs old. It was definitely an eye opener. I mean getting tapped out or strangled by a fella half my age is definitely sobering. However, it’s been a wake up call and usually very enjoyable. I feel great during class and after class I’m so relaxed and humbled. Learning skills and getting more fit as I travel into the last 3rd of life is great! Keep in mind you’re going to get banged up a bit. Couldn’t recommend it enough. 👍☕

I unfortunately find myself short on time for most of my hobbies nowadays. I still try to play guitar and find time for the occasional woodworking project. But fishing and shooting are hobbies I would love to find time to enjoy again. Same for golf. Between work and kids, if it's not a hobby I can do at home I rarely get to do it anymore.
