Nice set of pipes. I'd like to see where you go from here. If you pick up a nice Italian made pipe perhaps.

Thanks for looking y'all,
Yup....I'm enjoying this selection of cheap n cheerfull pipes! I've got to say-I am gob-smacked by how well these cobs smoke! I have yet to smoke that slightly larger Cobbit'SHire'..I'm saving it for Christmas Day!
My Falcon is teasing me into Briarness. As a newcomer to pipe-smoking I'm appreciating it's cool/dry properties but it still hasn't proved itself quite as instantly smokeable as a couple of those cobs have...but I'm getting there.
As to what I'm smoking in them?

Well this is a real beginners dilemma. I tried a few ounces of what is still easily available OTC here in the UK..namely B&H 'Mellow Virginia' (OK-ish..but hard work), Some kind of dutch 'Holland House' stuff (smelled better than it smoked!), Dunhill 'EMP' (a bit like smoking the dog-ends from the ash-tray in my car) and Gawith and Hoggarths 'American Delite' (sublimely beautiful, moreish and rather lovely -YMMV).

I beg to be educated about tobacco!
Thanks for your interest folks.
Best

Sunny Cornwall, UK.
Mellow Virginia is a grand smoke...give it time and you will fall in love with the stuff.
As a fellow UK smoker, might I suggest you try Condor Ready Rubbed or their flake version known as Long Cut which has a little more oomph.
Regards,
Jay in sunny Cornwall :puffy:

Hey widge,

you done good with that set. Ain't nothin' wrong with those; they are good pipes. They will not hold you back, but acquire a few briars to round it out. Estate pipes are great and economical. I wonder what the estate pipe scene in the UK is like? Falcons and cobs are darn good smoking pipes and will take care of you if you take care of them. You've come to the right place. Read the Pipe Tobacco Discussion posts here and the Tobacco Review site and you'll be orientated soon enough. I dug into this wonderful hobby a few years back and my palate is constantly evolving. Often I later enjoy blends that put me off before. My first into to pipes was as a child watching my dad rub out his St. Bruno flake.

Cheers!

Personally I always find a pipe-man a bit suspect if he doesn't have a cob or three in his possession.
Your doing great.
