Bummer man... Hope everything get's sorted out. I've had a few issues with cleaning or refurbing estates and finding bad cracks. It always sucks.

I broke my first pipe ever on the weekend. The tenon on my Radice broke off in the pipe when I removed the stem. Odd, because the pipe was cool - I hadn't smoked it in weeks.
Luckily, it was not a pricey pipe, so I chucked it in the garbage and moved on.

It isn't really necessary to remove the stem very often. For a system pipe like a Kaywoodie or a Pete with a "sump" sure, but a decently made pipe....leave it on for all but a thorough, bi annual cleaning.

To minimize the likelihood of snapping the stem like this again, ensure the pipe was completely cooled, then turn the stem slowly and carefully in the clockwise direction only -- no wiggling.

100% however the pipe was cool i havent smoked it for a week and a half before i cleaned it, and i was putting the stem back in. there was a gap most likely from me heating the tenon and pressing it down flat to tighten up the fit which worked beautifully but left this gap.
For some reason i thought it was ok if i attempted to bend it a bit back Without heat (i know my thinking cap was not on for this one) and not knowing me own strength, it snapped.
I mean theres stupid then theres what i did.
