It will always be a gamble. A lot of people who waited to stock pile ammunition are sure regretting that they didn't start stockpiling sooner. Im one of them.
Sadly, me too. :crying:

I really hope nothing will happen, because it will mean giving up pipe smoking entirely for me. It is not feasible for me to build a cellar as I am a student, and can only make a 250gram order once every few months and that costs $60+. Tobacco prices are completely unnaffordable locally, and there is currently NO pipe tobacco in ANY local tobacconists due to plain packaging laws and the fact that there are very few pipe smokers in this country. I only keep a few tins on hand at a time and when they are empty, a new order gets placed. I would love to have access to the variety of tobacco and old school smoke shops with lounges that you have in the US and be able to build a cellar.

But for now, as long as they dont tax online purchases for international buyers, all is well.

Okay, I'll play the wacky optimist and say that if civil society holds together (history

says there's no guarantee there, but it's plausible) a variety of good moderately priced

tobaccos will be available into the foreseeable future. This is because the energies of

public concern are focussed around other issues -- non-tobacco drugs soft and hard,

cigarettes for health concerns, and a whole array of other non-substance use issues.

So if a quite small percent of people who smoke pipes, real outliers statistically speaking,

want to purchase and puff pipe tobacco, I don't think there is much public or legal ardor

to pursue it. We won't be welcomed in public places, but the supply line of the product

will survive. The history and image of pipe smokers is too picturesque to make them

appealing villains. Despite Joe Stalin. Because of Twain, MacArthur, etc.

Soon has already passed in New York. I have to buy all my tobacco purchases out of state or pay 75% tax.
A tin of Frog Morton's Cellar here is $19 vs $9 on smokingpipes.com.

wow, where do you get that optimism? What do all of these imagines below have in common? They're all picturesque Hollywood Icons smoking cigarettes. I'm sure none of them ever thought that doing so would be demonized by society.

In tracking the last two years' purchases I've saved over 5% compared to current prices, roughly $200. That's a good enough reason for me. You're losing money by not buying!

I am like fitzy in that I would have to pay 22.95 for a tin of SG Best Brown flake at my local b/m instead of paying 8.95 at Jr's. My local guy used to have a huge selection of blends but since they passed the 85% tax on the wholesale price of pipe tobacco, he has shrunk his selection by 80 percent. If it were not for the fact that his shop is in one of the busiest tourist areas here in Florida and he has customers from overseas used to paying these stupid prices, he said he would get rid of pipe tobacco all together. He told me that none of his local customers buy it anymore. All of his business is now from cigars which has no tax here in Florida.
So for many of us the future is already here and honestly there is no reason I can see for any optimism what so ever.

Thanks for the uplifting comment Harris. I ordered 80 more tins tonight. You nattering nabobs of negativity are costing me a fortune, but not as much as it will cost me if I do nothing, I fear.

And saving you tons later, probably. I am normally not a negative guy but I am seeing so much happening right now that I am getting a little scared. It's kind of easy. Either buy or don't buy. Either way, you'll live with the consequences of that decision.

peck, I am also spending a fortune right now but I look at it like I am saving a fortune as well. When smokingpipes, p&c and 4noggins get told they have to collect state taxes or cannot ship to certain states then it is game over. I will not buy tobacco for 25 plus a tin.
