I have a real fondness for GL Pease, Rattrays and Drucquer Lat blends and Orientals.
Question is which are known to be the smoothest?

Haddos is nice, but you had my undivided attention at '20 year old' ! Well done."Smoothness" as a tobacco trait leans toward the subjective moreso than the objective.
20 year old Haddos Delight was exceptionally smooth for me.
No clue on how others describe it, but I would call it an absence of roughness. A blend can be spicy and smooth, since it has a tingly spice but is in other ways smooth and not irritating to retrohale. Maybe "creamy" is an adjective that can be used together with "smoothness" on occasion too.Could someone help me understand what's meant by "smoothness" in a pipe tobacco?
I've smoked pipes for well nigh 15 years, I think, and taken personal notes on who-knows-how-many tobaccos, but I myself have never judged a tobacco in terms of "smoothness." Describe what you mean by it?
As for favorite GLP, for me it's Quiet Nights, although I can see how Windjammer could be a favorite if you like burley.
One which I haven't gotten to but keep meaning to is Meridian. From what I've read, and what I know of my tastes, I wonder if it will give QN a run for its money.
For me, it was Gaslight. Quiet Nights is a very close second though.
Still have some tins in the cellar that look like they're about to blow, but for a latakia, that one to me is silky smooth and cant wait to try some with age on it.
Its like a nice Islay Scotch on a cold evening.
Gaslight is probably my favorite of the GLP blends.
Love both of these, except mine are flipped. QN is my go to and Gas Light is my runner up. I always try to pick up an extra 8 oz tin of each when GLP tobaccos are on sale. For me, it was Gaslight. Quiet Nights is a very close second though.

Maybe Caravan. It has burley, in addition to latakia, va and oriental. I find that burley tends to smooth out a latakia blend. It also changes the flavor profile and balance but there's not so much burley in Caravan, I think, that makes it obvious. No clue on how others describe it, but I would call it an absence of roughness.
