Has anyone seen a new smooth Deluxe System in a while? I know there were a few smooth 9B's, I got one. But I haven't seen another smooth Deluxe System in a long time, I know they are fairly uncommon but I just can't believe they haven't had any briar worth a smooth in this long. If they can't get some mediocre grain pit free briar, then are they just using garbage? I know for a fact there's still a market for em, the smooth 9B's sold out in minutes, so it's not lack of demand. Deluxe systems aren't typically know for being specimen grain pipes, they're typically pretty boring grain wise otherwise they'd be graded higher. Dark Smooth Deluxe Systems ought to be relatively common. What gives?

I suspect you have to buy them direct from Peterson at full price. They seem to have them on their website occasionally as well as at several european sellers. I also suspect small black ugly gnarly pipes are in vogue at the moment with some.

I've noticed this too. I saw one on SP last fall, but it was sold pretty quicky. I added it to my cart and by the time I went to check out, it was no longer available.

The only one I have, I found at a B&M in Louisville while traveling last year. It was seemingly forgotten, the recognizable green box covered in dust way back on a shelf. It had some light oxidation on the mount, but cleaned up quickly with a jeweler's cloth.
I really enjoy it and would be happy to add another to my stable, but yeah, they seem rather hard to find on US retailer sites.

I know those are not De luxe systems but I bought those in 2021 and early 2022..I think it is about a shortage of quality briar...Last night i just watched videos of pipes from Al Pascia on YT since they started it like 15 years ago and was amazed how many beautifull pipes were available 10-15 years ago not just Petersons...i think the Golden era of pipemaking is over even tho today you can still find amazing pipes but not as many legendary pipemakers is making enough pipes as 10-15 years ago and prices went up badly...Blasting on some Petersons and grain from that era was stunning ...Today you do not even see premier systems in smooth natural finish..Most of new Petersons are dark rusticated entry level serial production machine made pipes..I got it but I wish good briar was more available to them..

I have 4 deluxe systems 3 of which were bought on eBay and a 4th from a pipe forum member on another forum all years ago. 3 are smooth and 1-a 4s-is blasted. 2 of those 3 smooth have good to great grain with my 20s having spectacular grain, though almost never smoke it as it is too small for me. For that matter, all of them which also includes an 11s and 9s are too small chambered for my preferences.

I never paid more than $100 for any of my deluxes. Of course, they were all "used." Got my blasted 4s for 549, probably my best eBay deal. Haven't used eBay on around 10 years, though.
Do you mean $5.49? If so that’s an awesome deal!

Peterson is now being headed by Joshua Burgess. Both he and Sykes Wilford (the head of Laudisi, Pete's parent company) are occasional visitors to this board.

Quality is a very big deal to both of them, and the challenges of briar supply are a big part of that.

I'd say stop wondering and ask the horse.

Oh, wow! Not much of a Lestrade fan but can't say anything bad about that pipe. And is that a natural spigot Xl02 on the left?
It is and for some reason everything taste great from that pipe...grain got nothing to do with it....Lestrade is still a virgin but I will get to it one day...The only Deluxe system I have is 9BC from 40s with bone extension

Yes!

The shopkeeper there, Alicia, sold me the pipe. Then I went out to their back porch and smoked with a very nice gentleman named Ernest.
Cool store. Cool city. Great afternoon.
Nice, glad you enjoyed it.
Derby City Pipe Club meets there on Saturdays.
Alicia is the owner and Ernest has been working there for eons.

Since Alicia took over from her retired father we've (us pipe smokers and club members) really pushed to get Kremers back to being a serious pipe shop again. Her father, Gayle, was content being cigar dominated.
