I hate when stuff like this happens. Its a true lose lose.

I haven’t had a tobacco shop, but I ran a vintage video game “business” on ebay. Having a delivery service as a middle man is a powerless feeling. Package can be mishandled or lost even with good packaging.

I can’t speak to the miscommunications, runarounds, etc, but ultimately exchange is a fine option.

For damaged items, I used to always look at the cost of the return label and offer as a partial discount (or a bit more to make it a round 10-15% whatever). Save some of the hassle and end up in same place. Or maybe a 5-10 $ house credit?

Some people would just be trying to extort a discount, but I found most of the time it was a one off honest mishap.

SP has given me free tins for something similar, but It’s hard to expect a new guy to do the same thing just starting out.

I have had one order with nova and I had no problems fwiw.

Also though, I feel bad for OP. Forum not holding back anymore 😆

I still think he should take care of you so you will stfu. Pragmatic decision. But I didn't flip because of the mob mentality, I just came to recognize what a whiney POS you are. What you are calling mob mentality is simply everyone seeing what a pathetic excuse for a human being you are.
Wow, reverted to personal attacks, what a real winner you are. Rather than face the truth that you are mob mentality kind of guy, revert to personal attacks. Says a lot about you. Had the guy apologized for his poor packaging rather than try to convince me that they packaged it well this part of the thread would never have existed. Sounds like you have some issues to work out.

I think this can all be boiled down to dude wanted free shit got upset he wasn’t getting free shit so posted to put Nova on blast.
Had the guy apologized for his poor packaging rather than try to convince me that he packaged it well this part of the thread would never have existed. To be honest I almost didn’t even want to email him originally bc I felt bad bc he’s a small shop. His response to me in email is what set this off, the lack of responsibility.

JUST STOP!

His email was fine, the thread doesn’t need more of this repeating the same thing over and over.

I’m in mind of The Beatles “Digging A Hole”.

Great read!

Really gets you thinking about the hard questions surrounding customer/business relations.

Why do I hate Walmart, but shop there every month?

Why am I afraid to be nice to customers?

I had a great friend and mentor who taught me to be a salesman. He used to always say two things, I can hear him plain as day...

"Never kiss a mudfish on the ass"

&

"Sometimes you just gotta pucker up and kiss a mudfish on the ass"

Somehow both are true...

Bottome line: this thread is making me ruminate.

I had to look at the pic of the horrific dents again. Keep up the fight!! Youve been wronged!!!

Really should just toss them in the cellar. Nothing wrong with those dents, unless you plan to eat the tobacco and maybe fear botulism. I was always told to be weary of on dented tins.

I feel ya. @condorlover1 sent me something special and this is what I received: A Funny Thing Happened With The Post Office! :: General Discussion - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/a-funny-thing-happened-with-the-post-office.107976/

Come to think of it, he never made it right. Never sent me a replacement. I, too, will now hijack this thread to demand compensation! A PSA will be forthcoming.

“Thank you for following up. I do want to clarify that your order was packaged properly and securely before it left our shop. Every order is packed with care, and we’ve successfully shipped thousands of tins without issue. You’re the first customer to let us know that our packaging didn’t meet their expectations, and I take that feedback seriously. That said, minor denting can sometimes occur in transit, even when packaging is secure — in fact, minor denting can occur during the vacuum sealing process from the manufacturer as I previously stated earlier. What really matters is that the tins remain properly sealed — and these tins are as you previously stated. it’s important to note that this is very common with modern pipe tobacco tins.

Our policy for situations like this remains the same: we can arrange an exchange once the original items are returned, and I've already provided you with a prepaid return label to make the process easier on your end. Once the tins arrive back here, I’ll prioritize your replacement so it goes out right away.

If you’d prefer not to go through the exchange process but are still concerned about the denting, one option would be to transfer the tobacco into jars. Many pipe smokers do this right away, as it ensures long-term freshness and peace of mind, while also allowing the tobacco to age properly.”
