We have a regular group of pipe smoking customers at the shop/lounge that I work part time at. I’m also a regular at another shop/lounge that sells pipes and tobacco’s where I’ve never seen a pipe smoked.

This site is pretty much the social aspect of pipe smoking, for me ...that said, I became interested in cigars last summer and recently got a membership to a local cigar lounge. I have not smoked a pipe there yet, but they have a growing selection of pipes/tobacco and have pipe nights once a month. They welcome and encourage pipe smoking, however, they do not allow tobacco purchased elsewhere (totally fair) ...I witnessed someone smoke an aromatic in there last week, nobody seemed to mind at all...

I started smoking cigars in September after finding a great cigar shop/lounge close to my workplace with friendly customer service and friendly patrons. I smoked cigars occasionally in the past, but not regularly like I have these past four months. Part of the fun has been the social aspect of going to the cigar lounge and chatting with folks about recommendations, and then simply getting to know people. And I feel no awkwardness sitting there enjoying my cigar, even if I’m alone, because I just purchased the stick from that seller.
I’ve had several pipes for many years, and have smoked them every now and then. Now with my newfound interest in cigars, I’ve once again gotten intrigued by pipes. I’ve watched endless YouTube videos and have read postings on this forum. I’m eager to try new blends and pipes. I just had Peterson Night Cap the other evening, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Here’s the question: Where do you folks enjoy pipes socially with others? I know there are pipe clubs, and I see there’s at least one in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where I live. But I’m talking about smoking with folks a little more regularly. I could smoke at the cigar lounge, as they sell some pipe tobacco. But unlike a cigar that I can just buy each time I go in, I’m not going to buy pipe tobacco every time I visit. I don’t think it’s good etiquette (or maybe even permissible) to sit in a lounge, trying new blends I’ve purchased elsewhere.
I’m an introvert with the best of them, but certainly enjoy some social interaction, which smoking sometimes causes me to want. Anybody have pipe smoking buddies, and where do y’all meet?

not quite what you're asking but I find cigars more social. Though when pipes are social for me it's better. Which is ironically either with great friends or with people I like but don't have much to say to.

Its exactly the same with me. The local B&M is primarily a cigar place but they do sell pipes and pipe tobacco. I purchased a pipe from them so I wouldn't feel bad going in there and lighting up. I see its very social and they know each other. My wife goes to the garage for cigarette smoking. I can't do it. Pipes should be slowly enjoyed. I go the the back patio of my house where it is cold. Kinda sucks. No pipe clubs locally. Social would be this web site.

This forum is as social as smoking can get for me. Cigar shops where forced to close their lounge 1.1.2022, smoking in any workplace, even if it's completely shut off from the workforce it is prohibited. Not that I'm a big fan off a lounge, I like to enjoy my pipe or cigar in silence, but I get why you want to socialise while having a smoke.

I have one friend that I sit, smoke, drink scotch, and have a conversation with. I’m normally a introvert. I enjoy my pipe and thoughts alone, that’s where I find peace. Cigar smoking is more of a party situation with me, on the boat or gatherings at a house with a cook out. I’m not opposed to having a pipe with others and I have before, just seems more comfortable in my workshop alone.

I will sometimes set with a couple of other pipesmokers when I wait on my wife to shop at the mall.

I also love my pipe club, but we haven't met but just a few times since covid.

We have a pipe lounge at The Briary, which is great for smoking and meeting folks. Also, I don't mind buying a few cigars to be able to use a cigar lounge. We have one with a bar across the street from me. And, a few others scattered about.

We are lucky to have quite a few pipesmokers in my area. But, I find that social smoking is so much easier if I am smoking a cigar with someone who is chatty. Having to remove my pipe to talk and respond does NOT make for a great smoke. Much easier to smoke a cigar that doesn't require constant contact with the cigar to find pleasure. YMMV

I've smoked a pipe at the same time as another person exactly twice. I have a couple pipe smoking friends but we live all over the place. No lounges around me seem like they'd be a place I'd enjoy. So basically I sit by myself and smoke a pipe every day. Which, for me, is kind of the point. I spent a minimum of 4 days a week in bars, whether it be for social reasons or I was working, for almost 20 years. Since covid, I can count the amount of times I've been at a bar on two hands. I find that I appreciate the quiet a little bit more these days.
