I'd hate to have to buy the current new versions of all the pipes I own. I think the prices have ratcheted up slowly enough not to be so noticeable. When the USD climbed in value against the Euro, I thought that pipe prices might moderate noticeably, but I haven't seen that.

I did pick up a good deal on an italian-made Stanwell from PC, sale priced with an anniversary coupon for another ten percent. After I'd ordered for the good price, I went back a few days later and sure enough, the pipe cost about twice as much. Hooray.

That potential bug aside, I have noticed that Peterson pipes at least have gone up a decent amount in the past couple years. The Aran line has gone up around $25 since late 2019.
All pipes have gone up in the last few years, on average probably 20%. Not unique to Smokingpipes, other sites prices have increased accordingly.

Spain - Europe
We have never been in such a black tunnel of uncertainty. Here in Spain we cannot live without cow's milk and coffee. I admire those poor animals, who at 5 o'clock in the morning are already producing. Due to the drought alarms, milk has gone up by 15 cents more. Then the torrential rains will come and wash away the farms, the cows and the milk truck. 1618413465_879_La-verdad-no-contada-de-los-creadores-del-hombre-lobo.jpg

What amazes me are some of these butt ugly estate pipes selling for 500.00 plus and I wouldn't have paid half that for a new one.

The more pipes I look at I wonder if it is me who has no taste in pipes as I stick to classic shapes. All these crazy shapes going for big bucks cannot be a coincidence. Maybe it is old guys like me who cannot stay up with the times and we are being left in the dust with our classic shapes.

I do occasional spec buys across the major sites for fun so I have a lot of older pricing data to compare changes to. With SmokingPipes it seems to depend on the brand.

Both AKB and IMP Meers have gone up hefty amounts with even the bottom of the barrel AKBs hovering around $100 when they would have been 60-70 less than a year ago. Their mid-range stuff is closer to high end Peterson prices now. IMP is even worse with everything being $300+ where as it was around the $240 mark before. Alternatives like Altinay or Meerschaum Market have never looked better.

For whatever reason German pipes have always been vastly more expensive on SmokingPipes US than they have anywhere else. SmokingPipes EU is often cheaper across the board and the German brands follow suit, but TobaccoPipes usually beats out SPC on pricing by sometimes even 20-30%. From about a year ago Vauen and Rattray's have gone up about 5-10%.

The German clays have also seen a slight increase with ones that would have gone for $14 almost a year ago up to around $17 or $18.

MM Cobs have gone up $1-$1.50 on average.

However others like Peterson have stayed relatively the same. An Ebony Spigot was $171 in November of 2021 and it's at ~$175 now. So only an increase of around 1%.

It's largely the same with tobacco. Some have stayed the same, some have increased in price. Some Examples: Capstan has sat at $16.85 since Nov 21,
Cult Blood Red Moon has gone from $11.20 in July 21 to $11.65 but has remained pretty stable otherwise.
Escudo has sat at $14.99 since Aug 21
Elizabethan has gone from $11.49 in Jun 21 to $12.91
Devil's Holiday has gone $14.80 in Jul 21 to a whopping $17.25
Presbyterian has gone from $8.96 in Jun 21 to $11.20
All the 100g Mac Barens have gone up slightly from $20.70 in Jul 21 to $21.45

So as usual it'll never be cheaper than it is now, sales excluded.

That's why I'm glad my go to guy never charges me more than $170.
I've got a guy who commissions for 175 a pipe and they're gorgeous. The other that I'm loyal to has gone up the past year so I don't commission from him as much as I used to but still do a couple per year. My wife talks with him so those are usually birthday or Xmas presents haha
Some of these carvers are just crazy. I've seen new carvers starting commissions at 400+
