Also keep in mind that USPS hires a bunch of temp folks this time of year strictly to help with package deliveries. So while your normal carrier might be a rock star, you might have someone else bringing packages. We have 2-3 different folks showing up at the door this time of year, all delivering packages for USPS.

In my experience, however, having it show delivered and not be there is about the worst event that can happen (relating to shipping/receiving) packages. That’s usually when things go south. If it isn’t there today or tomorrow, I’d go through SP because USPS won’t be much help and SP has more stroke with USPS, anyways. Like I said above, you’ll likely have to wait the 14 days for a USPS investigation period, but I’d be willing to bet it’s made right in the end, regardless of what that looks like.

I ordered something from a smaller retailer (don't want to mention them as I don't think its their fault) on the 22nd and still have yet to get the package and USPS tracking says something ambiguous like "package will arrive later than expected" without any of the normal history you're usually able to see.
well that's what I got on Saturday on both these packages - first one was supposed to arrive Saturday - pushed off to Monday - got second on Tuesday - first one showed delivered Dec. 1 this morning the system BACKDATED IT to show it was delivered on time(28th sat) - USPS is becoming shady now that they use computers

Well, I experienced this when covid was going crazy in NYC, I had one package stuck in their system (expensive item actually) and only got it on its way after using some link on the USPS website to inquiry about such a thing.

Don't know if it's the case here, but I've read that sometimes the "scans" aren't scans at all, but automatically generated updates based on when the packages "should" have arrived/been delivered. It could be at the post office and just didn't get put on the truck for delivery.

USPS just do whatever they want. Don't think anybody will steal a pipe package these days. they will probably take your fancy $1000 dollar iPhone and leave your $2000 pipe alone.

Apparently, not today - mailman was very nice - formal meeting - he iterated from memory not recalling any packages other than yesterday - well, who knows - he said he'll look into it, which was nice of him - there's always tomorrow...and the next day... and the next puffy still a bit angry - those GLP Anniversary blends may not be in my cards- but as George Harrison said - All things must pass:mad:

So I placed 2 orders one prior to black Friday and one on Black Friday. They both went out and I saw a box waiting outside today after mailmans truck left block. I figured it was the first order - wrong - I opened it, and it was the second order. Figured it arrived first and first will arrive tomorrow - HERE'S THE THING - They both read as delivered today but I only have 1 box.
Either mailman still has on truck? delivered to wrong house? worst case, is he a theif(I know him for 6 years)? Now am I out the dough!? Will insurance cover a package that reads delivered. I am worried as this NEVER happened in all my years of using USPS. What do you think? I hope I can catch some zzz's tonight
call the post office. Sometimes things get misscanned. I had one time an order from England just disappeared and then got found after I called the post office. It somehow missed the truck out. They fixed and got everything in order and I got to enjoy my new pipe. This is more likely to happen you know when everyone is ordering from the internets at the same time. And I doubt the mailman would steal your package unless he starts smelling like pipe shop :)

full disclosure - while my postman seems to be an upstanding guy, I don't know him - he took over the route of our 30 year mailman - I have encountered MANY thieves in my short lifetime so I don't give anyone a pass - maybe except pipe smokers, and other hobbyists that show character. Life is far from perfect and people can and will steal when given the chance. But yes, regardless, I still don't think they should scan them as delivered until literally delivered.
not to tell you how to live your life but I'am going to tell you how to live your life. In my opinion you will miss out and loss more being suspicious of everyone then you will not being suspicious of the handful of treacherous bastards. Seriously I've seen it enough time. It's like you replace thieves with a bigger more subtle thief.

I gotcha - yea well I called the supervisor this mornin' which I mentioned to the postman - he didn't seem too pleased talking about the guy - "What did the supervisor tell you!? when was it delivered!?" The supervisor did seem like a bit of a pain.

I'm not sure what's going on with SP and their use of postnet but every shipment I've had from them for the last few months has, at a minimum, been slow.

I just received some Samarra and Spark Plug today that I was lucky enough to have a good neighbor bring to me after they received the package rather than keep it for themselves.

I hope you get your package but if it were me I wouldn't bother with USPS and instead deal directly with SP.

I was just greeted at my door by a Gentleman - first words "Whose the Man!?"
@BarrelProof hit it on the nose- Temporary hired help couldn't find my place - took it back - put it on the shelf
he went looking for it at HQ and drove all the way back - HE IS THE MAN! thanks all of you for the emotional and physiological support - I appreciate it - I gotta let SP know

I don't know if you worded that perfectly but I understand and agree with your feeling on this. I tend to give most everyone the benefit of the doubt until they give me reason not to. The reality is, in my experience, 95% plus are good people. I am not going to let 1 in 20 sour me on the other 19. I'm not going to miss out on the opportunities to make friends and share with 19 people because of the actions of 1. Or fear of those actions.

There's also a significant difference between competence and conspiracy. I suspect the issue the OP has is with competence, not conspiracy.

Sometimes this delay helps. I sent some cigars to a forum brother in September. That was the last order I placed, and the address was saved by default. When I did my holiday shopping, I forgot to change the address so a huge lot of tobacco and cigars were heading to the forum brother. I realized the mistake two days later and since the order has not shipped, I called up SmokingPipes and requested them to change the shipping address back to me.
