Also keep in mind that USPS hires a bunch of temp folks this time of year strictly to help with package deliveries. So while your normal carrier might be a rock star, you might have someone else bringing packages. We have 2-3 different folks showing up at the door this time of year, all delivering packages for USPS.
In my experience, however, having it show delivered and not be there is about the worst event that can happen (relating to shipping/receiving) packages. That’s usually when things go south. If it isn’t there today or tomorrow, I’d go through SP because USPS won’t be much help and SP has more stroke with USPS, anyways. Like I said above, you’ll likely have to wait the 14 days for a USPS investigation period, but I’d be willing to bet it’s made right in the end, regardless of what that looks like.
