You know I think it was Russ O who stated that smoking outside actually amplifies the sensitivity of the palate. I have never found that to be the case, in fact, just the opposite no matter what the season. Sounds like you live in an Ohio-like climate. The only smoking I do outside when it is cold is in my garage and that would be just cigars as my wife will not allow me to smoke them in the house. Generally, I have found the wind, even if it is subtle and the numbing of the senses from the cold work against experiencing flavors. But if it works for you then never mind what I say in the end.
