About the best advice I can think of is quit smoking. Sounds like you are doing most things right, so if you don't enjoy it, why do it? If it is a matter of finding a more enjoyable blend, I would see if you like English or Balkan blends, they tend to smoke cooler and have lots of flavor, if you happen to enjoy said flavor.

Hi Bille and welcome to the forum! That's a hell of fish you got there on your profile -Well done.
Becoming a pipeman is not just something that happens overnight. It takes time. I've been stumbling along for about 25 years and I think finally with much knowledge that I have gleaned from this website I've finally got it figured out and most of my smokes seem to be highly rewarding and satisfying. I got started in pipes when I was about your age.
Patients is the big part. And since we're all different you have to experiment and flush out just how exactly to get the most from your pipes and tobacco.
Best of luck to you in your pipe journey. I hope you'll stick around and continue to contribute.

You simply haven't achieved pipe tongue yet. It's been a long time, but as I vaguely remember when I first started smoking a pipe that it seemed to bother/dry the roof of my mouth. After some time it simply went away, and this is coming from one who has smoked cigarettes since I was 16 and I'm now 69. If by chance the problems persists I would take the advice of hiplainsdrifter and just quit. After all... why push it when when smoking in any way shape or form is an unhealthy, disgusting and a expensive habit.

I had the same problem when I started. Then I started smoking my aromatic blends in a 9mm pipe with a 9mm Stanwell charcoal filter. Much smoother smoke, less lounge bite.
Try Dunhill's Early morning pipe in a non filter pipe, good introduction to a smooth bite free English oriental blend and of course non aromatic.
It takes a while to get the hang of pipe smoking. Its almost like you have to break in your mouth and tongue lol

But as others said. dry tobacco, slow sipping, light packing. don't worry if you have to relight.

Try different types of blends, try with and without filter.
-Tim

My old man had a friend who smoked cigarettes and pipes. I mean, I would see him smoke both in the same evening. I never understood how anyone could switch hit like that. Then again I never understood how anyone could smoke a cigarette. I started with cigars, and the few cigarettes I bummed off other people, the only way I could smoke them was to tear off the filters and puff them like I did a cigar. People laughed at me, but I have no idea how people suck smoke into their lungs.

A little stronger in taste than a cigarette yet still mild and smooth and has a sweet taste to it.

Wow... Thanks for all the replies. This is for sure the best forum ive ever been a part of. You get answers so quickly and so many different angles of view. I will keep trying out new blends and if i can get some of the blends you folks have talked about. But some of them im not sure i can get here in Denmark. And ordering from USA is just not an option i dont want to wait that long if i dont pay for express shipping that costs 5 times the price of a tin of tobacco. But ill keep trying and follow your advices the best i can. Thanks a lot! You guys have really given me more help that i hoped for :D

One suggestion to help against tongue bite (which should be called tongue burn because that's what it is). When you draw on the pipe, don't completely seal your lips around the stem. Allow a little outside air to be drawn in along with the smoke. Eventually your tongue will adjust and you won't need to do that anymore. But it also works well for occasions when you accidentally stoke up a bit too hot, or if you're smoking a bite-happy blend.

Switch to English Mixtures. Dunhill's Night Cap, One of the Frog Mortons, Cornell&Diehls Star of the East, Or GL Pease Gaslight. Virginia!s and VaPer need to be sipped. The former are a bit forgiving.

Welcome aboard, Bille. Is that fish a pike?
There are many good comments and good advice already shared here, I would only add that pipes are not cigarettes. You are used to high nicotine with no strong flavor. I hope by this point you are finding a rich buttery smoke, if you have not try some H&H Classic Burley Cake. It is a burley, virginia, aromatic blend that smells so good you could eat it out of the bag. It is not a high nicotine blend but very smooth, and to me, enjoyable. Good luck in your journey.
