Honestly I did still get a faint hint of ketchup in the smoke, a little sour and a little sweet. It might just be my perception or it could even have been pairing it with a Bud that did it. It truly was a great tasting smoke and the first Virginia that I have enjoyed. No bite or burn and it took over 1-1/2 hours to go through the bowl. The wifey even liked the aroma and mentioned ketchup without me telling her (not a bad thing, she loves the stuff). As sparroa suggested, I am going to hunt down a couple more tins to cellar and see where that takes this tobacco. I'm happy to find a VA that I like.
And yes, no perique, though it might be even better with some. Gonna have to look up the St James Woods.

The other good thing about BF is that it's an American blend that is in wide circulation and there doesn't appear to be any supply issues. And at $15 per 100g it is cheap as cheap can be when it comes to tinned blends. So it is an ideal candidate for the cellar if you like that sort of thing, captainsousie...
5100 got way better so I wouldn't be surprised if BF was the same.
Some people say St. James Woods is pretty close to being the same blend except with added perique (although the jury is still out on that one) so I think you will definitely like it.
They are both on my next order...

DGT, got it thanks folks.
Ohin, I've got that Grousemoor saved on my list. Thanks for the tip.

So I tried DGT on a bowl of the Black Woods. It did change the character and there was absolutely no hint of tartness or the flavor I got from a fresh bowl. It was nice but to me it wasn't as good as the freshly packed tobacco. I think I'll just stick to having this one after a couple hours drying time.
Incidentally, I am finding that a more open draw leads to more tongue bite from Virginias to me. When I have them in a pipe with a slightly more restrictive draw, they are bite-free and when I use a really open draw pipe, they bite like mad. I have found this is true for me in about a dozen different pipes with both FVF and Black Woods. Anybody have some insight on this?

@jah76: There is nothing out there that is like Grousemoor. It is a beautiful naturally sweet soft Virginia that marries so so well with the lavender, lemon grass and ginger scent that is added to the tobacco. A constant in my stash.
