The only people I've known with a real smoking jacket where teenagers who had a stinky coat they hid fromt heir parents. What do I mean by real? I mean a jacket meant to capture the smell so one doesn't smell redolent of smoke.
With pipes, I’ve never noticed a lingering smell, not even in my home. Not cigarettes and cigars, most definitely. No, I do not own one.

I have in the pipes but even when I have smoked a lot of pipes in one day my clothes do not smell strongly. Excepting a few more robust blends. Bold Kentucky certainly lingers but not like cigars or cigarettes. Though I have smelled aromatics that linger in the air for a while if it's not windy. As in going for a long walk getting back to where it started and still picking up on EGR. But mostly I totally agree.

Smoking jackets? I'm a widower and live alone so, no one to protect from the reek of stale smoke. Well, the dawg and parrot but, so far, no complaints. The reek is insidious, slow to grow and so, for all intents and purposes, unnoticeable to the residents. Put a non-smoking real estate agent in your house and they will notice immediately Those pesky smoke particles just adhere to all surfaces, carpet, paint. drapes, and such, not to mention skin and hair, which is why the smoking jacket was de rigueur years ago. Wives were simply intolerant of the odor of stale smoke. Clubs had smoking rooms, farmers smoked outside, and so forth. I'm old and no longer worry about offending others. Although I studiously avoid smoking in other people's homes, offices and other private spaces.

"Room note" is one thing, the stinking reek of old smoke residue is another.

This question of Smoking Jackets shows up on a thread from time to time. Most posters will state that their smoking jacket is a "hoodie". They know damned well what the OP was asking about, but because a smoking jacket is "not for them" or any of a dozen other reasons that have nothing to do with the OPs question, they will proudly down play the question.

First, a smoking jacket probably isn't for those responders. They shouldn't purchase one.

Second, not everyone can pull it off. That's a fact. You have to be the type of person who can walk into a room and own it without a care in the world about what anyone else might think.

The guy in the hoodie thinks that is him.... but it isn't, which is why he is in a hoodie blending in with all the other people in their hoodies.

Smoking Jackets are not worn because you want attention or you are showing off. That person wouldn't be caught dead in a smoking jacket today.

The guy who is wearing a smoking jacket is the guy who is having such a great time living that he simply can't not have one. Why, because they are fun. It is as simple as that.

Here's a great place to get one and they are half price: https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/nansidi-doubletree-resort-fiji-sonaisali-island/

I warn anyone planning on stopping by, I can often be found smoking without pants. So, if you are easily offended, phone ahead. The dog and bird are used to it. Moose and bears pay me no mind when they come upon me in summer, sitting or working around the property. The neighbors? Most simply avert their eyes in disgust. There is one widow down the road who ... well, passes by the end of my drive fairly frequently in the summer, a pair of compact binoculars always at hand.

My dear Telescopes. If I owned a smoking jacket like yours, I cant help but to see myself wearing it on Christmas morning, broke af and smiling.

I wear a hoodie, in my garage, for the sole purpose of it being a smoke capturing outer garment. It obediently stays in the garage until next called upon…

Whereas, a smokin jacket like yours may have a tendency to wander off by itself at night for illicit purposes.

On edit. By God I love this forum.

My smoking jacket is kept at my Nevada home because that is where I go to lounge around. It’s also a place that is stress free. The jacket is used more as a day robe if that makes sense. It’s also great for having cocktails out on the patio overlooking the Colorado River. Of course Christmas time is very appropriate.

What is this reek you all speak of? Smells like home to me
Close up the house and go on vacation for week or two. When you return ... you'll probably get an understanding of the reek, the smell of stale smoke. And yes, it is indeed the smell of your home. Wouldn't bother me, my home reeks and it is indeed the smell of home. Non-smokers, realtors, prospective buyers, etc may not enjoy it though.

The same can be said for many homes without a smoker in residence though. Depends on how clean you keep you garbage disposal, litter boxes, ill maintained bird cages, cat dander and the like. The last time the trash masher was emptied is another. If you had "kimchi" for a meal in the last few days. A bit of vanilla on a warm light bulb will temporarily mask such. A cleaning lady can mask the normal reek of a home. But, it's your home so it'll smell ... well, similar to how you smell to others without a masking coat of after-shave. rotf Stale smoke is simply "off-putting" to many.
