An after thought. I collect books and they are in my office as well. Will the pages eventually get a discoloring? In the engineering/construction industry I have seen plenty of older computer equipment stained yellow brown. Does the same happen to books or paper.

Eagle, any discoloring of pages won't come from smoke, but rather the acids in the paper.

Low acid paper takes much longer to color than (obviously) higher acid papers.

That will usually go hand in hand with the cost of, and physical quality of the books themselves.

I smoke in my office, it is seperated from the house, but with a supply duct from the house for heating and cooling, but no return air duct back to the unit, I just crack a window a small amount to releive the pressure buildup. Works great, no problems with the wife or anyone coming for a visit. Life is good.

As far as ash trays go, I have one that I bought at an estate sale a few months ago and have been steadily filling up with remains from my smoking adventures...and I don't notice any terrible off smells coming from it. But maybe that's because there's a decent amount of completely unburnt tobacco living in the ashtray as well.

Collin Dow: used pipe cleaners are much worse. Yuck. :(
edit: I just went and smelled some pipe cleaners and it wasn't as bad as I remember it being a while back, maybe it was a tobacco I was smoking then or maybe these haven't been lying around for long enough, heh (I'm lazy when it comes to cleaning out ash tray and dumping old cleaners)

Hey Guys, I'm enjoying an afternoon smoke indoors today and just realized the best method of clearing the aroma of my last pipe. This method works rapidly and leaves nothing to the imagination. Much better than an oil lamp and it lasts all afternoon. It's a deep, dark, rich, 6 inch long 54 ring Partagas Black Label with an ice cold Miller for hydration. I may not live in Buckingham Palace, but, no King lives there either. My castle is occupied by a resident King. Philip can only eat his heart out he's not at my place this afternoon.
