I'm curious about the general pipe smoking habits of others.

I have friends who smoke a handful of times a week. Others only occasionally, and others daily or multiple times a day.

If I could post a voting question: how often do you smoke a pipe?

Since I've been entertaining the smoking hobby, I've gone very slowly from a rare smoker to a weekly smoker. I smoke once or twice a week at most. I figure any more than that and I will have regrets as an older gentleman...

Yet there are those in my family who smoked unfiltered cigarettes starting at age six and lived into their upper 80s. So idk... maybe they were lucky?

I wouldn't mind smoking more if it weren't for the unappealing smoker's breath I have to endure for the better part of the following day.

I smoke a pipe once or twice a week in nice weather (I only smoke outside) to monthly or not at all during winter in Alaska.

I would cautiously say that genetics probably has more to do with your body’s tolerance to tobacco and long life than the anti-smoking crowd would readily admit. My dad smoked a pipe a lot from his teens to his 50s and lived to 89. His dad smoked a pipe for over 80 years and died at 94.
I smoked cigars once or twice a week from the 1970s to the 1990s and then started smoking a pipe as well. Sometime around 2010 I quit cigars and only smoked pipes. I smoke mild aromatics for the most part and find the pipes leave little to no “morning tobacco breath;” the cigars always did. But it’s possible that if I’d never smoked a cigar, and started smoking a pipe, I would be more conscious of the taste in my mouth after the smoke.

Anyway, I find smoking a pipe while I’m walking the dog, or fishing, doing yard work, bird-watching or hiking enhances my enjoyment of those events. I’m pretty confident that with moderate use, pipe smoking will not be a major factor in your longevity, though you may find your life more enjoyable for it.

You are not going to get a consensus to your question ;)
Along with questions like "How many pipes is TOO much ?"
Or "How many blends of tobacco/ how much tobacco is a good amount ?"

There is an active member on these Forums, @Flatfish, who is a non-smoker.
There are members who smoke a bowl occasionally (every few weeks or months).
Those who have stopped for a while (or some years), only to come back to pipes again.
Then there are those who have a pipe in their mouths ALL their waking hours.
And those who smoke pipes, cigars, cigarettes, chew or use snuff all day.

I typically smoke 2 bowls most Saturdays and Sundays, if time allows.
I work in a totally smoke-free environment. And we have very strict public anti-smoking legislation in Oz, which really restricts my opportunity to light up.
I do not smoke if I am at all unwell.
I have not smoked for a fortnight, and will abstain for a further fortnight because of recent cataract surgery.
My wife is very intolerant of tobacco, so smoking indoors is a total no-no.
And I will not smoke around children.

Do what you are comfortable with.
Rather than what others are doing around you.

Two to three bowls a day usually, though if the weather on the patio isn’t pleasant, then zero bowls. For example, it was 93+ degrees yesterday and will be 100 today, so no smokes for me.

I’m currently prepping our garden shed to convert it to my pipe lounge, which will be delightful through the long northern Indiana winter. Installing an exhaust fan in the ceiling, got a comfy chair and ottoman off of Facebook marketplace, have a nice floor rug, and I’ll get a space heater. It’ll be three or four bowls a night if the plan all works out…

I smoke a few bowls a day. Usually one in the morning and a couple in the evening. Can't smoke at work. My wife is very tolerant of my pipe smoking. I've had an on-and-off relationship with tobacco almost all my life. Never smoked a pipe, though my father did. I won't inhale - I don't like that at all. But I find pipe smoking to be very enjoyable.

Smoker breath? Brush your teeth twice a day, visit a dentist at least once a year, and consider using a mouth wash.

I’ve never kept count…I always seem to have a pipe in hand or mouth. Whether it’s lit or not is another matter! I tend to get wrapped up in something and forget to relight or puff.

If I really had to put a number on it, I’d say 8 - 9 bowls, plus my one nightly cigar. I have an advantage in that I work from home and have an office where I can do whatever I want (just knock first)!

Sometimes I have three or more bowls a day for weeks at a time and sometimes I go months without a pipe or cigar. It all depends on how I’m feeling and timing. With school starting I’m super busy with my kids so I have no time for a pipe.
