Here
Well, politics aside, all of us pipe smokers are adults.
R rating means no rugrats crying mid-film.
Just sayin'.... :puffpipe: :puffpipe: :puffpipe: :crying: :puffpipe:

I can honestly say when I was a kid, watching a movie that had smoking in it, I didn't think anything of it. It wasn't until later as an adult revisiting some of those movies that I even noticed that some of those Disney movies featured smokers. It all comes down to thinking like, "We don't like it, so nobody else should be allowed to do it either."

And when you're projecting your dislikes onto everyone else, don't forget to do the famous "but it's for the children!" in your best angsty, whiny, nosenheimer do-gooder voice. Pricks. It's because of assholes like that that I don't even like children anymore.

Suddenly all the Classics have R ratings. I wonder if the Russians hacked the Movie Ratings Ministry somewhere along the way as a practice run?

For the first time in my life, I am starting to become afraid of my own country. The people from my home town. My friends. My students. People I always believed were good at heart. People with utilitarian values. It slowly started in the early 1990's and look now. I just never expected politically correct to morph selfless fascism.

Very RICH thinking there, but best to keep it in your NOGGIN.
OMG I laughed at that!

SO much This ^
If you had told me the US would look like this 20 years ago, I would have called you a liar and we'd have had fisticuffs. So when I say now that looking 20 years in the future people who share my beliefs could be hunted in the mountains, no one can really laugh it off... It is sad, sad, sad.

Anyone who is unwilling to join the consensual delusion that Love, Rainbows, and a Petting Station for Fuzzy Bunny Wabbits on every street corner will solve Man's problems is the enemy.
Make no mistake. We joke about this shit, but those who already do believe it are 100% serious, and their strength of belief matches that of true religion. In brain chemistry feedback-loop terms it is indistinguishable from religion.
The ubiquity and efficiency of social media makes such a thing very, very dangerous. The full-on tribal, Burn the witch! response is much closer to the surface in humans than those raised in the post-WWII era realize.

I can't remember the show, but we recently saw something whose introductory warnings were "This program is recommended for mature audiences only - it contains realistic war violence and historical smoking." Truth...
A warning for "historical smoking". Truly boggles the mind. But unfortunately it's just one of many, many examples that could be cited of things that are now the accepted norm, and considered to be reasonable, but are in reality completely bat-shit crazy.

Come on guys lets steer this thing back to the Acceptable, Smoking is bad for you and Hollywood is right headed in its thinking. All the independent thinking could get this thread closed down.

Never mind the locked-after-ten-minutes thing, I just discovered that this 1970's-era software doesn't allow someone to delete their own post even a SECOND after it's up, even from a fat-finger error.
Don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Lots of great comments so far, and most are correct in the way society is going, and none of us have any say or control over the way it will end up.
