I try to run 2-3 miles 3-5 times a week. I need to get back to lifting weights but I've been lazy about it for the last couple of years. I only smoke 3-4 bowls a week and I never inhale. No impact so far.

Well Ive been training in Muay Thai for almost 20 years now, Ive fought in a few smokers in between gyms, I've ran countless mud runs and obstacle courses, I trained about 5-6 days a week and smoking a pipe never hindered me in any way... just like you jitsbowl I smoke on average 2 bowls a day

Now at the moment I'm out of shape (turning into a bit of a fat ass :P ) but thats because I tore my meniscus on my left knee, so basically I was out of commission for about 6 months (damn I don't heal quite as fast as I did when I was young) after that I got lazy so all together its been about a year and a half that I haven't done squat. so Ive gone from 165 lbs to 195 lbs 8O
Anyways... Ive started just this last week getting back into shape and training the bag again... went from being able to do 5 rounds to barely getting out of the first.
Solid job on the jits and judo... I have allot of buddies that roll and Ive always wanted to train... but good lord its expensive.

Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson during halftime in Super Bowl 1 (1967) enjoying a smoke & a Fresca.

They didn't call him "Lenny the Kool" for nothing!

I am an avid backcountry skier and hiker. I do weights 3 times a week, and run 3 times a week to stay fit for those pursuits. I purposely limit my pipe smoking so it doesn't affect my performance- which it certainly does. I have found that one bowl a week is about like eating doughnuts once a week- it ain't good for me, but I can work through it at my next workout.

I am a very active back-country backpacker and compete in long distance events. At the gym at least five days a week. I tell myself that pipe smoking has no impact on my performance (I don't inhale) but nicotine does indeed constrict blood vessels and I am sure it has an impact (all be it much less than the lung issues associated with inhaling).

I only ride for fun now and not nearly as often as I should but I used to race mountain bikes and ride my bike to work
Same here ... 100+ mile off-road races and 24-Hour race events.
I placed third at the Brian Head 100 in the men's Single Speed category during my peak ... just like to cruise for fun now! :)

I run about 20 miles per week plus play tennis once per week and go hiking on weekends when I can. I usually only smoke one bowl per week but lately I've been squeezing in an extra bowl here and there. While I don't inhale I haven't run well as of late; not really feeling it in my chest but my legs simply don't want to move, especially on hills. Don't know if the two are connected. I plan to drop down to one bowl per week again.

I started my pipe hobby again after quitting cigs and pipes 30 years ago. I always said I would start pipe smoking when I retired which i am in the process of doing. I started long distance running and mountain hiking in those 30 years and still enjoy it. My goal is a combo of running and hiking at least 50 miles a month. I smoke about a bowl a day and have felt no ill effects. It's been so hot down here in SC that I haven't run as much lately. Actually I'm more concerned about my junk food eating habits than my smoking.

I don't believe the medical establishment's claim that tobacco use of any kind is ultimately lethal, but I do believe it is damaging and potentially lethal. This gives me pause as I've gotten older, and it's hard to admit that I don't care enough about shortening my life not to choose to not use. The truth is that reliable sources of pleasure other than the pipe and my cat are few, and though I can't quite give them up, people, including loved ones, are not reliable. Systems of thought and practice that clarify better living and appear to lead toward truth are my best bet.
