Smoking At Work

Here in Oregon, it's illegal to smoke in nearly all business places (some exceptions for tobacco shops and casinos). Being retired, however, it's only illegal in the house because SHE says so, so I do most of my smoking in the shop (MY shop) or on the deck. Sad to be so relegated....but it's got it's benefits!

Interesting to see how many do and don't enjoy a pipe at work, and where they can enjoy a smoke.
I agree it is a sad state of affairs these days. I can understand some establishments not wanting smoking inside, and I can appreciate that not everyone wants to be around someone that is smoking, but to take away cigar lounges or smoking lounges in general and to treat any type of smoking as evil is just crazy.

I work for a public university and can't smoke indoors, however, I travel by foot often throughout my day and I always bring a pipe with me. I work on a small campus and for years I didn't see any any others, students or faculty, publicly smoking, but this year the tide has changed. I run in to at least one other person a day smoking a pipe.

I have to think that "what goes around, comes around". Yes, it is very unfortunate that the "Public" has a "great aversion" toward smoking freedom (anywhere). But, maybe, if we pipe-smokers perpetuate and defend our freedoms, over time, we will not be so "shunned". I am not one bit ashamed of smoking my pipe in "legal" places and I am always amazed at the "favorable comments" I get like "my granfather smoked a pipe and it smells so-good"!
