Smoking a pipe in the rain

When ever I'm smoking my pipe I usually have one hand free so just shield the pipe with the free hand. Silmle is as simple does, so that's why this works for me...

I wear a large brimmed hat most of the time. Shooting in the rain is a favorite situation, softer colors and such. I smoke every day, all day. I often try to find a semi-protected spot to set up in but, turning the bowl upside down is often a choice. I turn it on the bit, no point changing the feel of the pipe by turning the bit upside down. One does what is required to get the shot.

Lots of troops have inverted their bowl and enjoyed dry tobacco in the rain. Try it, it works. Field ops don’t stop the smoking

You are right... but it does rain on me from time to time, I just wear a hat. I guess I should have included that

I smoke the pipe upsid down also, But I only smoke an old corn cob in the rain.

Any pipe upside down while walking in the rain is fine. Wind caps do nothing if the rain is substantial. Umbrella great if wind under 5 kts.

worst that could happen is a flash flood and you drop the pipe and then get stranded on a roof without anything to smoke. Or in other words either not a problem or you got much bigger problems.

Living on the Oregon coast, rain is part of daily life, so I do smoke in the rain on occasion. If it's not raining hard there's nothing special that needs to be done. You might need to relight more often, but you can still have a great smoke. If it's really pouring I suggest putting the pipe away and getting out of the rain.
