You can smoke it 5 min after the first bowl, let it cool down reload and repeat. Best practice is to run a pipe cleaner through it after each smoke. If you’re smoking aromatics also want to make sure the bottom of the bowl isn’t goopy.

the rotating pipes bit was just a way to get people to buy more pipes.
Yup, exactly that.
I've done it, still do. As soon as I get a new pipe, I can't wait to smoke that sucker.
I smoke a G4 Bulldog in the morning, same pipe every day. Evening time I switch it up to a G6, just because I've got the time, but the point I'm making I'll smoke the same pipe for weeks in end, until I fancy changing, for whatever reason.

Clean the pipe between bowls and you should have no problems.
Mainly the shank, wiping out the bowl is easy enough but the shank is where the 'skank' lives.
Alcohol and q-tips or cleaners before bed is a good idea, every few days or once a week.
Occasional Water flushing and letting it sit overnight, or a day (if you don't mind taking a break) does wonders as well.

Yeah, this rings true enough.

Anyone who has bought a Savinelli knows that they include a little pamphlet preaching the merits of having at least 7 (Savinelli) pipes -- one for each day of the week -- in order to give your (Savinelli) a good rest between smokes. I honestly try to abide by this since I have a modest-but-large-enough collection to afford this practice. I don't know that it makes a difference. Though sometimes maybe pipes can use a good cleaning and airing out?

I have broken in my fair share of new pipes and I have a system that has worked well for me.
When a new pipe comes in, I drop the pipe I am smoking and immediately start packing the new one with a Virginia flake( yes I am still like a kid at Christmas). I fill it to the top, smoke it to the bottom and then clean it really well and then give it a days rest. I will repeat this until I feel the pipe is broken in.

Once I begin to get a nice cake then i decide which genre of tobacco I am going to use or is it going to be to a specific blend. I don't use Vapers or Vaburs to break in my pipes. I cannot even remember the last pipe I bought where I didn't follow this procedure.

I believe that a new pipe must be properly cared for, but I don't believe that a new pipe is a sensitive, gentle creature that must be pampered, and fussed over. A pipe is to be used and enjoyed. I remember many of the old pipe smokers in our area that would buy a pipe and use it every day, all day until they tossed it in a year or two and got another. So smoke that new pipe and give it a little rest and it will last you for many years to come.

I think rotating a pipe has more to do with briar quality. Even in the 90's I saw more pipes crack and burn out then I have in the last 20 years. Yet I know more people who smoke pipes. And it was always guys who broke all the pipe rules like not resting a pipe. Totally just my theory but it's still weird to see something like that disappear suddenly.
