I’m off tobacco for a week. Somehow I got smokers palate. The roof of my mouth is inflamed and irritated but no sores. I guess its time to heal. Luckily I dont feel withdrawal but I miss the act and flavor of smoking.

Anyone else have this issue and an estimate on how long to abstain? I’m trying to drink more fluids, taking a little advil (more for my back but it covers that too). Happy to hear input.

I usually use Biotene mouthwash after brushing in the morning. By the end of the day, my mouth feels fine. Normally, I only smoke one bowl before bed. On the weekends, I can get in up to four bowls. I like to switch between P-Lips and fishtails it really helps to avoid any irritation.

It may sound silly but believe it or not Apple Juice helps out.
I’ve only had that occur once with an aromatic but I think I steamed it honestly by chugging away.

Ive tried skipping a day and that doesnt do it.

I may have irritated the problem from smoking too much and also having beer.

I typically drink tea or apple juice when smoking.

Apple juice goes nice with virginias.

I think I will crack open some apple juice and sip it. I guess a week off wont kill me.

I'll have to try the apple juice remedy. I've had the same issue for last two weeks after being overzealous with a Pub Pipe and a Savinelli dry system pipe. I cut back and switched to a fishtail stem and angle it so as not to irritate the burn. Although, I do think some of it was chemical burn due to the topping on the tobacco, It just seemed a bit more acidic than usual. Soft foods and ice cream help. There's a future thread topic : Which flavors of ice cream pair best with which tobacco blends ?

Whenever I drink beer while smoking I get tongue bite, no matter how slowly I puff, I'm sure I read somewhere that alcohol strips the protective lining off your tongue

nope well not in a long time. After learning to sip I find pipe smoking doesn't tend to irritate my mouth the way it could in the past. Like I'd get that if I kind of chain smoked pipes usually a camp fire situation with several cobs. could also just be my body is used to it. Yeah I refrain from smoking if my mouth is injured in some way. I'd say yea baby it a bit but mainly just leave it alone. The mouth heals so quick. I literally bit a chunk out of my cheek last week (weird accident) in two days nothing.
Also drinking more fluids especially mild ones helps a lot. Mainly just keeps the environment right.

I switch to nasal snuff if my tongue is a bit raw from overdoing it with my pipe (like the few times when I may have four or more bowls in a day). And then I sometimes will lay off the snuff for a day or two to let my nose reset.

I also regularly use biotene mouthwash to protect my tongue, and a nasal irrigator with salt water to clean out the snorter.

There are some excellent and delightful aromas and flavors in both pipe tobacco and snuff, and the occasional pain is worth the pleasure.

It happens to me from time to time, usually when I smoke more than 3 bols in a day. Restraining from smoking for a couple of days did not really help, what did was to smoke more slowly than usual (I am a pretty fast puffer), and to switch from virginia forward to burley forward blends for a short period. I also slightly changed the orientation of the stem in my mouth. I suppose that a mix of mouth chemistry and too much steam caused my sore palate.
