Beautiful pipe Peck.

Same to you Fishnbanjo. I really love that shape. He made perfect use of that block. It's rare to see such harmony.
Take a peek at Satou process:

In that thread that bigpond posted, there is this statement:
Satou-san has developed his own special chuck which allows him to drill both the tobacco chamber and the air hole with one setup.
I don't get how this is even possible. Can someone explain this to a dull-whitted guy who can barely change a lightbulb?

Peck,

It would need to be a compound setup with either a jig fixture that fits a certain type of bowl and stem configuration then the chamber is bored with a certain depth either by the use of mechanical stops or perhaps a CNC milling machine, same idea with the drill but neither will want to meet at the same time. I imagine the drill completes the stem and retracts and the bore completes cleaning up the stem residue leaving a clean bore. Not sure how a bent stem could utilize this system as I have no experience with flexible drills of that ilk.

Peck, how does it smoke? And would you give some input about his particular engineering characters?

Well, halfty, this thread you resurrected is two years old, so, old Peck has had plenty if time, I reckon, to give you his thoughts on what it smokes like.
