Honestly peck,
It's a cool invention for sure but I don't think it's worth it one week on an iPhone and you will be typing away like a mad man. I know this cause I was a hard core bb fan before but after a week I lived the iPhone. I'm using it to type this right now and I am not having any issues with it at all.
Another thing I notice about this device that it blocks 1/3 of the screen the key pad only pops up when you need it so this may be a issue unless they did something software wise for it.

Yeah I didn't think I could do iphone keyboard after having a blackberry with my gorilla hands - but I've been able to use it pretty successfully and pretty fast.
ok i didn't realize that it was a video i thought it was just a picture i see how it works now and i am impressed it looks pretty cool. i like the idea of a keyboard not popping up and taking up the whole screen. let us know how it works for you Peck. I may have been wrong on its potential initially.
LOL ... Yeah, I know what you mean. I’m sure there would be quite a learning curve to that thing. But if I had to use a “mobile device” for e-mailing (and I’m thankful I don’t have to) it would probably be worth it to me to learn to use it. I have a strong aversion to “texting” ... I don’t do it at all.

I had an iphone 4, and loved it at first. Wife got a Galaxy S3. I started to hate my iPhone. Now have a Galaxy note 2. I summize with this.
If you want something that just works, get an iphone, that is if you can figure out itunes. itunes constantly updates, and changes the way you have to do things. I for one (and many others) can't stand itunes. I was a true hater of itunes, before even the first ipod came out.
If, on the other hand, you like to customize, are savvy with tech, and like no restrictions, go android, or one of the other methods (Microsoft/BB).
Really it is as simple as this. Apple is more refined, hardware is easier to use, however their software is a mess. If you use their software on a constant basis, you will probably be OK. Otherwise, get something else, because it all does the exact same thing, and often at a lower price point.

Good post Peck. I was a Crackberry addict for years, till work dropped their contract. Since then, I've always had Androids with slide out keyboards. I couldn't function without a tactile keyboard. But, Verizon has now discontinued their last slider keyboard S4, apparently I was the last guy using this type of phone. It's good to know there are some options.
I suppose I could get used to the touch keyboard and will keep Swiftkey in mind when the inevitable happens. But I sure don't want to switch....(I can type on my keyboard like a mofo!) Guys who tell me "its fine" type one peck at a type (no, not that peck..). I type 80 wpm or better on a regular keyboard and I just don't have the patience for a touch screen. Another reason why I use my Kindle Fire simply for reading. If I had to surf the internet on that, I'd throw it out a nearby window.

Peck for years I was an BB user, then I switched to the android based on my IT guys recommendation which I hated. I just got the new Iphone 5S and I gotta say this thing is a work horse. The keyboard is great ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT. I send about 100 emails a day on it. More importantly it is super stable, never crashes. I know you said you have an ipad and macbook. I don't know so much about the macbook, but your ipad will mirror the phone with messages apps and music which I think i s a great feature.
@ssjones You'll fall in love with SwiftKey pretty quickly, and it gets better the more you use it.
There is a great app out there called Dragon dictation that allows you to dictate a text or e-mail or document without having to use the keyboard.
For the iphone you can also use Siri and she will do the same thing. It will eliminate needing the keyboard for those two things and both are free.

Well, I have had my iPhone 5S for about 4 days now. I haven't received the keypad referred to above yet, though I have read some reviews online and they have been excellent. I can't stand an onscreen keyboard - my fat sausage fingers just don't work very well for that, so I can't wait to receive the tactile keypad. One thing I really like about this iPhone is the biometric scan - just place your thumb on the button and it reads your fingerprint, so you don't have to enter passwords to login or, I discovered, to order stuff from iTunes. Pretty cool and it works really well. The downside of the keyboard is it covers up that button so I will have to enter passwords once that is functioning. A major drawback, but a real keyboard trumps that inconvenience.
