My wife and I love to go antiquing, more like junking, on the weekends and we hit our usual joints on Saturdays and Sundays. Last weekend I saw this small pipe cabinet and it had $68.00 on it. The owner called the vendor and he kindly lowered it to $50 bucks.

The only thing was no key! I figured it would either take me orever to find or would have to have one made.

We decided to go over to a small town about 15 miles from there that we had never been to but heard that they had a few shops. The second shop we went into I noticed about 20 or so old keys marked at $4.00 a piece. I asked the young lady that owned the store if I could bring the cabinet in and try them. Well aver about 8 keys one fit but wouldn't turn so now I'm thinking the mechanism is probably shot but continued on.

About the 15th key one fit and you could have probably heard my heart jump when the latch locked. (I'm old simple pleasures excite me!!! lol)

Nice looking piece. I have my grandfather's copper lined smoking cabinet from the 1920's and its a cherished heirloom in our living room. Good luck with it.

It's a little over 10" high with locking beveled glass door. Has holders for 2 pipes in back. Has a 3 1/2" diameter spot for I guess a tobacco jar or round tin. It's about 5 1/2" deep I believe.

Right now there are a few on fleabay. In my opinion they are priced a wee bit high. But then I am very frugal (cheap) when i deal there.

I have got some great deals on pipes and other things tobacco related at antique stores! I enjoy traveling to different towns and searching through all the antique stores!

Unless I get lucky and find a great deal on fleabay, I enjoy the hunt for the bargins on the weekends. We keep finding more and more little shops to hunt in. Also it is about the only thing my wife and I BOTH enjoy doing....finally found it after 23 years!!! LOL
