I just satisfied my PAD with an estate pipe from SmokingPipes.com - a Peterson System Standard Calabash (305) with P-lip. I absolutely love the look of it except for one tiny detail: a dent/notch on the rim of the mortise (see pics). This detail wasn't mentioned in the write up for the pipe. I didn't think this had anything to do with the System Standard design, but perhaps I'm wrong? Or is it just some weird notch that the previous pipe owner somehow created when trying to pry the stem out? (The stem looks original to the pipe, FWIW.)

Looks like they drilled the draft after placing the ferrule.
Ah, I bet that's it. At the right angle you can look through the mortise into the draught hole (with light shining into the bowl) with the notch lined up perfectly. I assume that it will not affect smoking experience. Other than a few minor scuffs on the rim (as described in the write up), she's a very fine pipe. Excited to light 'er up.

Par for the course for a newer Pete. My St. Patricks Day 2020 shape 05 has the same mark on it just not quite that aggressive.
They certainly aren't what they once were.
