I recently acquired a very beautiful Jobey estate pipe. I sent it off to a gentleman to have it refurbished and it came back looking pretty good. I smoked one bowl out of it, and when I was about 3/4 of the way done, I thought I heard a funny sound coming from the pipe when I puffed. I let the pipe go out, dumped out the ash and dottle, let it cool, then went to take the stem out to investigate the noise. When I took the stem out, this is what I found.

Does anyone know if there is a way that I can fix this tiny crack myself? Or should I just send it off and have another stem made for this pipe? I love the pipe dearly and this is kind of upsetting to me. Anyone who can give me a tip on fixing it would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like you could just have a tenon replacement on that one. I'm surprised the person that cleaned up the pipe didn't mention that.

It almost looks like it was drilled off-center, causing the tenon to be too thin on the side that cracked.
That being the case, without drilling it out any more, I'd try to find a piece of aluminum tube that would fit snug enough to epoxy inside the stem before I sent it off to be retrofitted for a new stem.

It'd have to be a snug fit but not so snug as to make the stem too tight in the shank.
