Good evening everyone,
I'm thinking about getting a small bowl pipe, but I would like to consult the experts first. :puffpipe:
If I had the money I would go for a Dunhill group size 1, but since that's out the question let me know if you have suggestions for alternatives to Dunhill, and pro's/con's with small bowl pipes.
Thanks!

Stanwell makes really nice feather-weight models and are

around $100-$130/ea
Pros;

1.) Quick smoke

2.) If you are smoking stronger flake , this is the bowl to use

3.) Being able to fill the entire bowl
Cons;

1.) Quick smoke

2.) Might smoke hotter

thesmokindragon, Thank you for your input! That's the sort of response I was hoping for!! I just had a quick search on the featherweights, but I would like them even smaller and for my first purchase a bit cheaper, then I can later save up for a "dream pipe" ;)

Agree that the featherweight pipes are great for a quick smoke, taking only about 15-20 minutes. My big pipes go for 60-90 minutes when I smoke them. Sometimes I only have a few minutes and it is nice to have a small pipe on hand.

I need to have a mix of sizes. I love my large pipes, but they just don't travel well. I'm on the road a lot and need a size that fits in my travel bag and yields a short smoke if necessary. A group 3-4 fits that bill nicely.
All of my pre-Cadogan GBD's are smaller and fit this bill, so they've become trusted travel companions.

Perhaps a clay/cutty...pretty small. The feather-weights are

pretty dang small, but great little smokers. I have the 244

in Tan and it is fantastic for my SG-Bracken or 1792 flake
Other than that, again maybe a Brebbia pocket pipe

for briar
Or a nice MM cob like a Pony or Washington

I'm with Al. A mix of different sizes is the Ultimate goal. One good pipe full will give you what you want. Just stop smoking it when your done. I do it all the time. I'll pack it to the top and then do my running around. I put the pipe down and come back to it later. That way I don't need to carry extra tobacco every time.

The 244 Featherweight is really good looking!! The Brebbia's looks good too, and in a very attractive price range for a test pipe.

I use a smaller bowl size when lighting up powerful smokes such as D.F. Scented or Bracken.

A meer works well for me, especially for the scented flakes.

Also, smaller pipes seem to work better IMHO if you

are smoking flake and leaving it in flake form to have

a cooler/longer smoke as again a smaller pipe will smoke

hotter and with a shag or loose cut/depending on the

blend you may not want to smoke say a nice complex

English blend in a small pipe but rather a nice pure

Virginia or VaPer instead
This one I have been eye'in for awhile now as well ;-)

+1photoman13- that was the one I was thinking about. I have

the Sav pocket and because of the bowl shape think it is a

bit more work to keep a nice even burning bowl going...but is

handy in the deep freeze winters/quick smoker :)

For a small bowl pipe I like the Dr.Grabow Grand Duke. Nice little pipe for a few dollars and gives you that quick 15-25 minute quick smoke.
